Virtua Tennis 2009 is an upcoming 2009 video game developed by Sumo Digital[1] and published by Sega. It is part of the Virtua Tennis series, following Virtua Tennis 3.

Overview

Virtua Tennis 2009 includes World Tour Mode and includes a fully integrated online ranking system. All new create-a-player options give the gamer the ability to create anyone from Ivo Karlović to Olivier Rochus. The game features 40 different courts to play on, including locations such as Dubai and Shanghai. The Davis Cup has also been licensed and will appear.

Court positioning comes into play even more than in previous games, allowing you to generate more power and angle. Fail to get in position, however, and your player will no longer theatrically dive. That's been taken out and replaced by a stumble, which leaves you on your feet and with less recovery required to stay in the point. Serving has also been made more sensitive, thus requiring more skill.

The new world tour & online rankings feature allows players to take their careers online and compete for the ultimate title of 'Virtua Tennis Champion' with the new PLAYSTATION 3 system and Xbox 360 online ranking system. You can earn prize money from online tournaments and purchase over 800 shop items in the new Tennis Store.

There is also a new player creation system in this years game which allows you to have full control over facial, body, and clothing customization as well as the depth to populate the game world with 100's of unknown opponents.

Mini Games

The popular mini-games are back in Virtua Tennis 2009 with 12 court games to play, including 5 new ones:

Pot Shot - The first of the new court games, Pot Shot, allows you to play a game of pool by using the racket as the cue and the tennis ball as the white ball. The goal is to get the most points in this instant classic.

Pirate Wars - In Pirate Wars the player is tasked to avoid the cannon balls and hit back the tennis balls which are fired at you by the pirate ships at the other end of the court. These ships come in different shapes and sizes and will be a different challenge every time around. Sink them all to progress to the next level.

Block Buster - Block Buster builds a wall with different colour blocks on the other side of the court. By matching up colours, players have to clear the blocks in combinations to score the most points possible.

Count Mania - New to the console version of Virtua Tennis, Count Mania is a perfect way to practise your precision. Following the order of the numbers, the player must hit different zones of the court to rack up the biggest combo.

Zoo Feeder - In Zoo Feeder, the zoo keepers on the left and right throw different kinds of food at the player. The objective is to hit the food back to the correct animal, so make sure a banana doesn’t get thrown at a panda bear.

Shopping Dash - Last but not least, Shopping Dash has the player practicing their footwork, by collecting different kinds of groceries while avoiding the balls being shot at you from the other side of the court.

Wii Motion Plus

Virtua Tennis 2009 will support the new Wii MotionPlus feature. This means that for the first time Wii owners will be able to experience playing with the Wii Remote as you would with a real-tennis racket.

The Wii MotionPlus feature allows players greater control than ever before, with the Wii responding more accurately to the swings and shots of each individual player. With Wii MotionPlus and Virtua Tennis 2009 the shots you play will be mimicked by your on screen character, so you will be responsible for making your own cross court winners or drop shots. As well as direction, Wii MotionPlus will allow a slice to be played with a simple twist of the wrist, while an upward motion allows players to lob the ball over your opponents head.

Professional Players

The Virtua Tennis 2009 roster will consist of over 20 players of which seven are new to the series and three legends.
