Dinkar D. Patil (Marathi: दिनकर द. पाटील) (6th November 1915 - 2005)

He was an Prominient Marathi film director, producer, scriptwriter, and literature writer during Golden Era (1950-1990) of Marathi Film Industry . He directed more 35 Marathi Films, wrote scripts for 25 Films, Produced 5 Movies and wrote his famous Autobiography- Patlache Por (पाटलाचे पोर). His films and writing had a decisive influence on the Cultural development of social aspect in Maharashtra.


Early Life

Dinkar D. Patil was born in Agricultural background to a reputed Maratha Patil family on November 06,1915, in the Bombay State at small but famous village Benadi near Kolhapur present day in Karnataka.

From his childhood he was fasinated and interested by Films and Marathi stage shows & plays. He was infleuced by a Tamasha and Bhaurupiya's-an Artistic Marathi rural plays and persons. He Studied in Kolhapur and completed his B.A in Literature from Rajaram College in Kolhapur. Dinkar D. Patil started his film career doing small jobs in Maharashtra Film Company owned by Baburao Painter at Kolhapur, growing up to as an assitant director to Baburao Painter in Marathi film, Surekha Haran in 1944. Later he became one of leading film director in Marathi Film Industry.

Career in Films

Dinkar D. Patil had an illustrious career as a filmmaker for almost five decades from 1950's to 1990's. Starting as an assistant director in the silent era films and later transitioning into a film director of Marathi cinema. He directed , produced and worte scripts and literature during Golden Era(1950-1990) of Marathi Film Industry . He directed more 35 Marathi Films, wrote scripts for 25 Films, Produced 5 Movies and directed his Famous film Patlache Por (पाटलाचे पोर) based on his own Autobiography. He was one of the early filmmakers to realize the efficacy of the film medium as an instrument of social change and used it successfully to advocate socialism on one hand and Cultural infulencials on the other.

He was one of pioneer film director who introduced Marathi Lavani in his Films, which made his films more pouplar. He was one the founder member of Famous Prabhat Studio in Kolhapur with V. Shantaram. Also, he made an valuable efforts in establishing Marathi[Film City]]-Chitranagari in Kolhapur.

Dinkar D. Patil worked closely with leading film maker such as V. Shantaram, Baburao Painter, Narayan Hari Apte, Vekatesh Madgulukar, Lata Mangeshkar, Chandrakant and Suryakant Mandare etc.

Dinkar D. Patil worte scripts for more than 25 films, Dinkar D. Patil was an writer who used to write on True life stories of Rural & Urban life, which he incorporate into his films. His famous autobiography titled, Patlache Por (पाटलाचे पोर) was published in 1984 in Marathi. More than 10,000 copies were sold during initial years after publication and now it is translated in many other Indian Languages.
