Larry Richman (born July 10, 1955) is a noted author and trainer on project management, a publishing executive, Internet strategist, and author of nearly 20 books and book translations. He is also a pioneer in organizing community service organizations.

Project management

Richman’s professional career in project management began in 1980 when he began managing publications projects for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Today, he directs the Publications and Media Project Office that creates 8,000 printed, audiovisual, and Web products a year in up to 185 languages. This includes managing the writing, editing, translation, production, printing, and international distribution in 105 offices worldwide.

Richman is a certified PMP (Project Management Professional), consultant, and trainer to hundreds of employees of Fortune 500 companies. He has authored five books on project management, including two college texts. Richman has been keynote speaker at professional conferences. He has also written computer-assisted project management systems.

Publishing

Richman directs the processes and systems for print and Web publishing at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also known as the Mormon Church).

He is the President and COO of Century Publishing in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He has also authored over a dozen books, several book translations, and articles in professional magazines and journals. His latest booklet is Learning Through Life's Trails. He is a translator and interpreter in three languages.

Product Management

In June 2008, Richman became a Certified Product Manager and a Certified Product Marketing Manager from the Association of International Product Marketing & Management (AIPMM). He has experience product managing publications, as well as major Web sites for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including LDS.org, Gospel Library, and Country Web Sites.

Internet

As the former Director of Internet Coordination for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Richman directed the content and services of LDS.org, including coordination and synergy with other Church Web sites and related applications, such as Mormon.org, ProvidentLiving.org, FamilySearch.org, JosephSmith.net, and LDSPhilanthropies.org. The Church’s Web properties consist of hundreds of domain names and tens of thousands of Web pages (plus millions of pages of documents in the Gospel Library in many languages). Church Web sites are read by over 5.5 million unique visitors each month with 12 million visits and 55 million page views per month (not counting the genealogical research site FamilySearch).

Richman directed the Internet Coordination group that established roles, processes, and standards and provided governance for the development and maintenance of Church Web sites and services. The team also coordinated metrics, feedback, and Search Engine Optimization. Richman managed a complete redesign and rebuild of LDS.org in 2003-2005, including implementing XML, metadata and taxonomy standards, a content management system, Web portal server technology, and new Web search tools. He also lead the redesign of LDS.org in 2005-2007, which established a new design and electronic publishing system for all Web sites of the Church.

See his professional blog LDSMediaTalk for more information. His Internet moniker is ldsWebguy.

Evergreen International

Since August 1993, Richman has served as the CEO and Chairman of the Board of the non-profit Evergreen International, Inc. Evergreen fosters the concept that people who don’t want to be gay can control their behavior and live according to the teachings of the Mormon Church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints).

Evergreen provides education, guidance, and support to individuals who want to diminish same-gender attraction (also known as same-sex attraction or homosexuality) and overcome homosexual behavior. It is also a resource to family, friends, professional counselors, and religious leaders.

During Dr. Richman’s tenure, the Church began to address homosexuality in a more open way. There have been numerous articles on the topic in the Church’s Ensign magazine and leaders have addressed the topic in their biannual general conferences. Apostle Dallin H. Oaks and Elder Lance Wickman recently addressed the topic at length, touching on topics never previously discussed by Church leaders. [1] In 2007, the Church published a booklet on the topic as well as articles in the Ensign magazine in English and in the Liahona magazine published in 51 languages.
