Anthony "Romeo" Santos is the lead singer and featured composer of the Dominican bachata group Aventura.
At twelve years of age Santos became a member of his church's choir. Around the same time, he commenced his love affair with bachata, long before the style achieved its current popularity. A natural songwriter, Santos' early compositions were steeped in the tradition of legendary artists such as Blas Duran, Antony Santos and Luis Segura.
In 2006, Santos took an ASCAP Award in tropical music for his megahit song "Obsesión", and another in the English language market in pop – the first time a Hispanic writer has won an ASCAP award in the English–language market.
Aventura consists of Anthony, his cousin, and two non-relatives who are brothers. All have Dominican ancestry. All members also share the same last name, despite their not being related.
