Liferuiner

xLIFERUINERx was originally founded as a straight-edge, hardcore band, from Toronto, Ontario, formed in 2004. The band was originally created to make a sort of joke against mainstream straight-edge bands by writing lyrics about hate and death rather than preaching their lifestyle.[1] The band is currently on its second incarnation, dubbed "Liferuiner US" by fans. The Canadian band has released two full albums: No Saints, and Taking Back The Night Life. Over the years, the lineup and name of xLIFERUINERx has changed extensively, with the band having over 40 members in its career.

In August 2008, Liferuiner US stated that the most recent line-up would be their last and final lineup; that if any of them quit, the band is over. After that announcement, Ryan Carr quit the band, and Liferuiner US disbanded, although not before completing a tour of Europe without Carr. Since then, spokespeople for Liferuiner US have announced that they are once again active, and have named themselves xLIFERUINERx.

In May of 2009, Liferuiner posted a blog on myspace, it read, 'Now for the bad news…while we were in California we lost our vocalist and guitar player. Aj and Marc had to go home because of some personal reasons.'[2] They are still a band but will no longer hitting Europe up this summer.

History

Liferuiner started out in the summer of 2004 when then friends Marc Milewski, Todd Rupp, Jose Lopez, Andy Dinner, and Jonny O'C wanted to start a comical straight edge band to fill the then void in southern Ontario. The band played its first show on July 16 in Waterdown, Ontario, coming on as a guest surprise after Numbers, Revolt set. It was not so much a surprise as at the time as Marc, Jose and Andy were all in Numbers, Revolt.

The band did not play again until later that fall when Jonny returned from touring with The End. Considering the times the band had a considerable amount of hype given the members. The show took place at the L-3 splitting the set, since they had limited amount of practice time to fill a full set, with future drummer Shane Tyrer's band Get Loose. The next show to take place that was to be the bands first full set took place at the Rocket with Ion Dissonance. The band recorded a live demo at this show which was to be the first demo released to the public. Marc soon left the band before a show in Montreal due to family complications. Todd left the band after finding difficulties in being 17 and raising a child. This was to be the first of many line up changes.

Liferuiner CA signed a one-record deal with Tribunal Records for the distribution of No Saints, followed by a one-record deal with Uprising Records, which culminated in the recording & release of the album. Taking Back The Night Life in 2008. After the album's release, vocalist Matt Mason and lead guitarist Tom Warren left to form a tag-team (The Sweet Boyz). [3]. As a result, Liferuiner CA disbanded shortly thereafter, and was replaced by Liferuiner US. The Liferuiner US line-up announced in August 2008 that they had signed a multi-album deal with Uprising Records, and that a new album is to be released in March 2009. Although none of the members in Liferuiner US are original members or were involved in the writing or creation of any of the previous releases, they did claim at the time to be a permanent and final lineup.[4]

On July 27, 2008, a blog was posted on the Liferuiner Myspace page announcing the return of Jonathan O'Callaghan to front Liferuiner, and the circumstances of Jonny's return to the band. Jonathan never joined Liferuiner after his mid-tour departure in the beginning of 2008. Jonny has been keeping busy with Toronto band Siberia as their drummer, and has since joined Buried and Breathing as lead vocalist. Speculation is that the messages and pictures on the Liferuiner Myspace page in July 2008 glorifying Jonny's 'return' were simply a publicity stunt by the members of Liferuiner at the time, and their management.

On May 24, 2008, another line up occurred due to mixed opinions. Vocalist, Sean Vetere, and bassist Brandon Darcy will make their appearance on the 2009 summer tour.

Breakup and Reunion

On October 12, 2008, the Liferuiner US announced that they would be laying the Liferuiner name to rest. Speculation still arises as to why this decision was made, but members in Liferuiner US assure their fans and the fans of the original Canadian band that it would be for the best. They said that they still, however, planned to release new material under the flag of Uprising Records at an unknown time.

On October 16, 2008, Liferuiner US announced they would be filming their final show for a DVD. The DVD was to include a live performance, interviews with past and present members of the band, as well as new material. The last show was set to be on November 1, 2008 in Milford, Connecticut at Point Beach Club House. The DVD never came to existence.

On December 1, 2008, spokespeople for Liferuiner US announced that the band had been re-formed, and announced a touring schedule that extends well into mid-2009. The current incarnation of Liferuiner US will be releasing new "Liferuiner-themed" music in the near future. The current membership has been announced and features a few members of the Poughkeepsie, NY bands called Hunter and Legacy, as well as members from the Scranton, PA band Congo.
