Usage

The {{WikiProject Mammals}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

General parameters:

• category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.
• class – valid values are fa, a, ga, b, c, start, stub, fl, list, na (case-insensitive). See the project's quality scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |class= blank or omit the parameter.
• importance – valid values are: top, high, mid, low, na (case-insensitive). See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
• attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • This parameter populates Category:Mammal articles needing attention.
• needs-image – set |needs-image=yes if the article requires an image.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested images of mammals.
• needs-audio – set |needs-audio=yes if the article requires an audio.
  • This parameter populates Category:Wikipedia requested audio of animals.
• listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for John Doe, use |listas=Doe, John so that the talk page will show up in the D's and not the J's of the various assessment and administrative categories). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter.   If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.

Task forces:

• Monotremes – set |Monotremes=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Monotremes and Marsupials.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Monotremes and Marsupials articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Monotremes and marsupials articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • MonotremeImp (only used if |Monotremes=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Monotremes and Marsupials
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Monotremes and marsupials articles by importance.
• Primates – set |Primates=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Primates.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Primates articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Primate articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • PrimatesImp (only used if |Primates=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Primates
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Primate articles by importance. (not currently in use)
• Rodents – set |Rodents=yes if the article is supported by WikiProject Rodents.
  • This parameter populates Category:WikiProject Rodents articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Rodent articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • RodentsImp (only used if |Rodents=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within WikiProject Rodents
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Rodent articles by importance.
• Mustelids – set |Mustelids=yes if the article is supported by Mustelids work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:mustelids articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:mustelids articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • MustelidsImp (only used if |Mustelids=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within Mustelids work group
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:mustelids articles by importance.
• Pocket-pet – set |Pocket-pet=yes if the article is supported by Pocket pets work group.
  • This parameter populates Category:Pocket pets work group articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Pocket pets articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • PocketpetsImp (only used if |Pocket-pet=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within Pocket pets work group
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Pocket pets articles by importance.
• Bats – set |Bats=yes if the article is supported by Bats task force.
  • This parameter populates Category:Bats task force articles, and the relevant subcategory of Category:Bats articles by quality based upon the |class= parameter.
  • BatsImp (only used if |Bats=yes is set; uses the same values as |importance=) – Importance rating within Bats task force
    • This importance rating populates the relevant subcategory of Category:Bats articles by importance.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
