Jung Yong-hwa

Jung Yong-hwa (정용화, Jeong Yong Hwa) is a South Korean idol, singer-songwriter and actor. He has been a member of the Korean indie band C.N. Blue since its creation in 2009 and has achieved recent success with his acting debut as Kang Shin-woo in You're Beautiful.

Biography

Musical career

Jung Yong-hwa was born on June 22, 1989 in Seoul, Yeoksam-dong. His family consists of his parents and a brother four years older than him. He moved to Pusan in 1991 and lived there through high school, where he first began composing music.[1] After taking his college entrance exam, he moved back to Seoul[2] where he joined F&C Music and began training in bass technology at F&C Academy.[3] Yong-hwa is now a guitarist and vocalist for the new Korean group C.N. Blue (씨엔블루 Code Name Blue), along with members Lee Jong Hun (leader, guitarist and vocalist), Kwon Kwang Jin (bassist) and Kang Min Hyuk (drummer). Yong-hwa is the oldest member in the band.[2]

From June 2009, C.N. Blue began a string of performances and gigs at live clubs in Japan, before making its first official debut on August 19, 2009, with the debut album "Now or Never".[4] C.N. Blue is due to formally debut in South Korea on January 14, 2010.[5]

Acting career

In early 2009, Yong-hwa landed his first acting role as Kang Shin-woo in the SBS drama You're Beautiful, which aired from October 7 to November 26, 2009. As the series revolves around the life of a musical group, Yong-hwa played the role of the bassist in the faux idol band A.N.JELL along with fellow co-stars Jang Geun Suk, Park Shin Hye and Lee Hong Ki. His performance garnered him the New Star Award at the SBS Drama Awards 2009, held on December 31, where he also performed together with A.N.JELL.[6] Yong-hwa's second TV contract was for MBC's Sunday, Sunday Night program Korea Ecosystem Rescue Centre: Hunters, which featured seven celebrity MCs, including Kim Hyun Joong of SS501 going out to capture wild boars[7]. The show premiered on December 6, 2009 but will prematurely cease its run in mid-January 2010 due to protests by animal-rights groups.[8] MBC will be replacing Hunters with a new program on global warming,[9] however, Yong-hwa will continue as one of the MCs.

Other activities

MC appearances

Yong-hwa was a presenter at the first-ever Melon Music Awards[10] held on December 16, 2009 together with actress Lee In Hye[11]. Alongside Kim Hee Chul of Super Junior and You're Beautiful co-star Park Shin Hye, Yong-hwa was an MC for the 2009 SBS Gayo Daejeon award ceremony which was held on December 29.[12]

Magazine appearances

Yong-hwa's first solo photo shoot was taken in December 2009 for Vogue Girl Korea's January 2010 issue[13]. He then appeared in High Cut magazine in the December 2009 issue[1]. His third photo shoot was for NYLON magazine (Korea) in the January 2010 issue[14].
