Aware is a voluntary organisation based in Ireland which aims to assist people affected by depression.

Foundation

It was founded in 1985 by a group of patients, relatives and health professionals. [1].

Support Groups

Aware Support Groups offer a unique opportunity to talk openly about depression and its impact. Confidentiality is a central aspect of Aware Support Groups. A list of support group locations is availbale at Aware's Offical Website

Fundraising Activities

Aware conducts numerous fundraising events every year, such as:

St. Patrick's Day Harbour2Harbour Walk

The St. Patrick's Day Harbour2Harbour Walk is a 16.2 mile walk around Dublin Bay, commencing at 10am and taking approximately 4 hours to complete, starting from either Howth Harbour and walking to Dun Laoghaire Harbour, or else vice versa, starting from Dun Laoghaire Harbour and walking to Howth. This year's event commences at 10am on Wednesday March 17th 2010.

Daisy Days

Daisy Days runs from September 16th-18th 2010 and is Aware’s annual largest fundraiser. Packs of daisy bulbs or a daisy pin are sold in local supermarkets and shopping centres nationwide, where we have permission to collect. Each item costs €3 with 100% of proceeds to Aware.

Christmas Fun Run

Aware's Christmas Fun Run takes place on December 11th 2010 at 10am. This annual event takes place in the Phoenix Park, Dublin 8. In 2008, more than 2,000 people registered to take part – a huge success and an increase of 100% on the previous year.
