About Me

Welcome to my user page! I'm a 15 year-old male happily living in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. My username is based on my real name, David, although I don't really think I "rock".

Computer programming is one of my main hobbies, particularly in JavaScript, AutoIt, and Java. You can read more about that in the HTML and programming section of my user page.

I'm particularly interested in science, mathematics and computer science. Because of this, I like to visit the Wikipedia Science reference desk and try to answer a few of the questions there if I can. Even if I can't answer them (as is usually the case), some of the topics there are fascinating to read.

Wikipedia activity

In general, my contributions to Wikipedia relate to maintaining the encyclopedia as a whole, which leads to some people calling me a WikiGnome. However, I do not actively limit myself to this type of work, and I sometimes contribute meaningfully to some articles whenever I can. I also occasionally go on "link disambiguation sprees" if a disambiguation page has a lot of ambiguous links to it.

I am neither a deletionist nor am I an inclusionist. I am not in favour of deleting new articles that I think could grow into a much better article, but am keen on deleting those that should be deleted, such as articles that are clear vanity or nonsense.

HTML and programming

Sometime during 1999, I got into HTML coding and making webpages. In 2000, I started programming in JavaScript, and programming soon became a hobby.

In late 2003, I made a website on request called Eon Club, which is largely Pokémon oriented. It still gets updated nowadays, and has some of my more recent JavaScript games on it (although they are mostly Pokémon themed). It can be accessed here.

However, my main generic website is located here. It can also be accessed through the shorter URL http://www.totaldave.tk/.

Most of what I've done with JavaScript is on Eon Club, but some of my other non-Eon Club related JavaScript programs include a marble game, a Roman numeral converter and a love calculator (based on a classic schoolyard algorithm).

My latest pride is a version of Tetris. It was surprisingly more difficult to do than I had imagined, but that's programming for you. You can play it here. (works in Firefox too!)

Recently, I've also started learning Java, as a result of a need for a more proper, higher-level language rather than one which merely manages the DOM and manipulates DHTML (although JavaScript is more powerful than it sounds).

History of computer games I've played

On February 14, 2002, I joined Neopets. I played that for nearly 2 years. However, I quit Neopets when I joined RuneScape on December 29, 2003. I played that for about 1 and a half years, then quit because it got too boring, a bit too time-consuming and I no longer saw the point in it.

At the moment, I play less "serious" games such as Armagetron and, rarely, Kingdom of Loathing. As a result, this has freed up more time for me to engage in computer programming (one of my hobbies), particularly in JavaScript.

Proud contributions

  • Disambiguating the links in the 100 or so articles in the main namespace linking directly to the Fan disambiguation page.

Other than that, my contributions are generally here and there, this and that.

Other things

Political compass:

  • Economic Left/Right: -1.50
  • Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -3.03

(note the "minus" signs in front of the numbers, which significantly indicate I am to the left ;))

E-mail address: I have chosen not to disclose my email address publicly, but you can email me without having to know my email address by clicking the "E-mail this user" link at the sidebar.

I also go on HRWiki now and again, although I don't have a registered user there. It's a great site for all Homestar Runner fans (like me).

Well, that's about it. Thanks for reading!
