Hale is a city in Carroll County, Missouri, United States. The population was 473 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Hale is located at 39°36′15″N 93°20′37″W / 39.60417°N 93.34361°W / 39.60417; -93.34361 (39.604241, -93.343713)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 473 people, 190 households, and 128 families residing in the city. The population density was 859.8 people per square mile (332.0/km²). There were 222 housing units at an average density of 403.6/sq mi (155.8/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.79% White, and 0.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.85% of the population.

There were 190 households out of which 36.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 27.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the city the population was spread out with 30.2% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 28.3% from 25 to 44, 17.3% from 45 to 64, and 16.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 90.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 86.4 males.

The median income for a household in the city was $27,885, and the median income for a family was $33,750. Males had a median income of $24,875 versus $19,583 for females. The per capita income for the city was $12,180. About 12.5% of families and 19.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.6% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
