The Prozacs are a USA Pop Punk band formed by Jay Gauvin in September 2001 from the ashes of the Massachusetts based band, The GrandPrixx. After recruiting some local band members, The Prozacs wrote songs and played a few shows. The spring of 2002 brought the end of The GrandPrixx and The Prozacs became more than a side project. Line-up changes were made and demos were recorded.

Thanks For Nothing and Early Touring

In Late 2002, The bands first album “Thanks For Nothing” was recorded and then released in the spring of 2003. (with original members Jay on guitar/vocals and Dave on guitar/vocals and the addition of Colin on bass and Marty of The Grandprixx on drums) Following were several shows, compilation appearances and an East Coast tour with The Vents.

Monsters Night Out EP , Split With Johnie 3 , and Line Up Changes

After the tour brought more line-up changes and the recording of their EP “Monsters Night Out” which was released in the summer of 2004 on Cheapskate Records. (with Glenn and Pete of The Paranoids on drums and guitar) The Prozacs became a trio shortly after with Jay, Colin and fill-in drummers. As a 3 piece, The Prozacs toured the East Coast with Johnie 3 and Darlingtion...along with a recording and releasing a split 7-Inch with Johnie 3 in early 2005 entitled “Turntable Not Included”. Matty of Dangerously Happy joined on drums in January 2005 and toured to Ohio playing shows with Johnie 3 along the way. He also recorded the songs for a split CD with Johnie 3. (looking at a late 2005/early 2006 release on Cheapskate Records)

Live At CBGB

A live album was recorded at CBGB's in NYC with Karl (ex-Bloodbath and Pushbutton Warfare) joining on lead guitar in the spring of 2005 and released on Cheapskate Records. Shortly after, Colin after 3 years on bass left The Prozacs.

Second Split With Johnie 3 and Pieces EP

Karl filled bass duties until Sean Watson (Chin-Nuts) filled the position...and Karl moved back to guitar for local shows. The Band continued to tour as a 3 piece and released another split with Johnie 3 entitled “We Should Split” in March 2006 , the 7-Inch “Odds N' Ends” in August 2006 and the 7-Inch “Pieces”. The band also played the 1st Insubordination Fest held in Baltimore, MD in 2006.(They went to play this fest in 2009 and again in 2010).

Questions, Answers, And Things Never Found and Playing The Chords We Love

In March 2007 the bands sophomore album “Questions,Answers, And Things Never Found” was finally released, followed by the release of “Stickin' With It” which was a split with New Hampshire punk band The Guts. With Sean leaving and the addition of Bernie ( Boston's Nobodys Hereos ) on bass, the band released their 3rd full length album, 'Playing The Chords We Love' which was released on CD by Cheapskate Records & LP by Knowhere / No Breaks Records in December 2008.

New Line Up and More Splits

June 2008 saw the departure of short lived bassist (Bernie Nobody) and long time Drummer Matty Prozac. Jay recruited Adam Taylor who was also once in Jay's old band The GrandPrixx and Jimmy Craig. They then recorded a split 7-Inch with The McRackins called “Somebody Out There Loves Us”. After a short run with Pete Martone on bass, Adam returned and Jay Recruited Rob Sarno as a second guitarist in October 2009. In November 2009, Jay headed to Las Vegas with Matty on drums and touring bass fill in Bill Crumpton for a 5 show tour with Murder Majesty. The 4 piece Prozacs released another split, this time with Italian punk band Super White Garlic, entitled “Broken Smiles” which was released in July 2010. The Band Played on for about a year after the release of the split, touring and keeping the spirit of punk alive all over Massachusetts and way beyond.

Future Projects

In the summer of 2011 the band announced they would be taking time off of touring to focus on songwriting, personal life and working on new releases including a J Prozac solo record, a split 7 inch with fellow western Massachusetts pop punk band No Intention, as well as a B-sides, rarities and singles collection called "Cleaning Out The Closet" which will include their out of print first full length 'Thanks For Nothing' in it's entirety. They also are working on releasing a split 7 inch with Rutabaga Suicide of Eastern PA. Plans for writing and recording a fourth full length album are also in motion for a 2012 release.

Style

The Prozacs play a fast, short, high energy,and bratty style of Pop-Punk. They have often been compared to Early 90s Pop-Punk bands like Screeching Weasel and The Queers. They've also often been compared to The Ramones.Their songs are full of harmonies and sing along choruses. They often sing about love, being fed-up, friendship, punk rock shows, and their hatred of Emo.

Legacy

The Prozacs have been entertaining audiences for nearly 10 years never forgetting where they came from of who they are. They have also shared the stage with many great bands including: The Queers, Murphys Law, Circle Jerks, The Misfits, Agent Orange, Youth Brigade, Off With Their Heads, Marky Ramone, Bloodhound Gang, River City Rebels,The Ergs!, Paul Collins Beat, Joe Jack Talcom, Squirtgun, Beatnik Termites,Creepin Cadavers, Darlingtion, Johnie 3, The Vents, Even In Blackouts, The Start, The Leftovers, The Steinways, The Ergs!, The Copyrights, The Guts, Ruth's Hat, The Popstars, The Vapids, The Kowalskis, The Unlovabales, Rydells , The Drunx, The Capps, Sadplant and many more They have also played many great venues such as: The Worcester Palladium, Pearl St. Night Club, CBGB's, The Continental and the Vans Warped Tour in 2005. Compilation appearances have been made with Amp Magazine, Peephole Records, Cheapskate Records and Lollipop Magazine.
