Appleton Medical Center, formerly Appleton Memorial Hospital, serves the northern side of the city of Appleton, Wisconsin. The hospital was chartered by the State of Wisconsin in 1949 [1]. After a 12 year fundraising effort, Appleton Memorial Hospital opened in 1958 [2]. The hospital was renamed Appleton Medical Center in 1985 [3]. In 1987, this hospital merged financially with Theda Clark Medical Center to form the Novus Health Group, now called ThedaCare[4].

In 2007, the ThedaCare health system redesigned clinician roles, acute care processes, and the physical inpatient setting, with the goal of improving efficiency and quality.
