The yellowbanded perch (Acanthistius cinctus) is a large saltwater fish of the grouper family, found around eastern Australia including Lord Howe Island, and offshore islands off the east coast of Northland in the North Island of New Zealand, and the Kermadec Islands, in caves and archways of rocky reefs. Their length is between 40 and 60 cm.
The yellowbanded perch is narrower bodied than other groupers, and its colouring of a series of pale yellow and dark green-black stripes make it impossible to confuse this fish with any other serranid.
