Mendeira is a village in the Portuguese parish of Cernache de Bonjardim, having less than twenty inhabitants. Climbing Mount Mendeira gives you a superb view over the whole area, situated in a meander of the river Zêzere. Since 2004 the Dutch artist Els Smulders-Waijers lives, part-time in her house "Casal da Macieira", in Mendeira. There she finds rest and inspiration for her work. Since 2006 she organizes workshops in spring and summertime.
