CityLights is a 2014 Indian Hindi drama film directed by Hansal Mehta starring Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha in the lead roles. The film is a remake of the BAFTA nominated British film Metro Manila (2013). The film presented by Fox Star Studios in association with Mahesh Bhatt[1] and Mukesh Bhatt. [2]

The story of the film is about a poor farmer from Rajasthan coming to Mumbai in search of livelihood.[3] The film released on 30 May 2014.[4]

Plot

Deepak Singh is a farmer in Rajasthan. When his life struck by a tragedy, he migrates to Mumbai, with his wife and young child, hoping for a better life. However, upon arriving, he soon discovers the challenges of life in a big city.

Production

Earlier the film was set to be directed by Ajay Bahl of B. A. Pass fame. However, due to creative differences he was replaced by Hansal Mehta.[5] In December of 2013, it was announced that shooting of the film would begin in Rajasthan, which turned out be the first shooting schedule of the film.[6][2]

Release

The film was first scheduled to release on May 1, 2014, which was subsequently shifted to May 30. [7]Ahead of the May 30 release on May 5, a 26-minute footage was shown at a Mumbai event. [2]

Soundtrack

The soundtrack will be composed by Jeet Ganguly. Neeti Mohan has sung for the film. It was Kailash Kher who was first approached to compose for CityLights but was apparently replaced by Jeet Ganguly on contract issues. On May 1, the song Muskurane released, sung by Arijit Singh. The soundtrack was released on 5th May 2014.
