Sarajevo metropolitan area is the largest agglomeration in Bosnia and Herzegovina representing the wider area of the capital Sarajevo with an estimated population of 608,350 people.[1]
It consists of Sarajevo Canton with an estimated population of 469,400[2] inhabitants, East Sarajevo with approximately 120,000[3] inhabitants, municipalities Breza, Visoko, Fojnica, Kiseljak, Olovo and Kresevo. Sarajevo metropolitan area is economically strongest area of Bosnia and Herzegovina and generates more than 45%[4] of the national GDP and is the third largest area in former Yugoslavia, just behind Belgrade and Zagreb.
