The 66th NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen (第66回NHK紅白歌合戦) will be the 66th edition of NHK's Kōhaku Uta Gassen which will held on December 31, 2015, live from NHK Hall from 19:15 (JST) to 23:45 (JST), with a 5-minute break for latest news. This is the 27th Heisei Era edition. Broadcasting time was announced on September 16.[1] The 2015 Broadcast marks the 65th anniversary of Kouhaku Utagassen which started in 1951.
Broadcast
Yuji Itano, Broadcasting General-Director from NHK, revealed on September 16 which 66th Kouhaku will air on December 31, starting from 19:15 JST and ending at 23:45 JST, with a 5-minute break for latest news. On Japan, the broadcast is made by NHK-G and Radio 1, and worldwide by NHK World Premium (Note that airs between 10:15 and 14:45 UTC).
Who will be the host?
There are likely candidates to moderator festival this year. These include:
- Yoshihiko Inohara (V6), depending on the V6 20th anniversary.
- Masami Nagasawa, actress who starred in the drama Sanada Maru.
- Mao Inoue, currently in the cast of current Taiga Drama "Hana Moyu".
- Minami Takahashi, who is graduating from AKB48 this December.
- Rino Sashihara, from HKT48.
- SMAP.
Trivia
- AKB48 sings the main theme from NHK's 93rd Asadora, Asa ga Kitta, which premiered on September 28. It also has a weekly variety show on NHK BS Premium, AKB48 Show!, which airs every saturday since 2013. Minami Takahashi will not act on this Kouhaku due to her graduation on December 8, on AKB48's 10th anniversary. Other graduated members will not participate this year.
- Viewers outside Japan can watch the Kouhaku on NHK World Premium, at 10:15 UTC airing on a same time with NHK-G. Kouhaku airs worldwide since 1998.
- In the USA, it airs on TV Japan at 05:15 ET/02:15 PT. In Europe, it airs on JSTV at 10:15 UTC.
- Every year, following Kouhaku broadcast, NHK airs a 30-minute live special "Old Year, New Year".
