- Comment: See WP:Referencing for beginners, still needs to focus with any additional amount of in-depth third-party news sources overall. Applicable notability is WP:CREATIVE and, if his art had been collected by major museums, this would've automatically been notable. SwisterTwister talk 04:21, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Comment: Please provide multiple independent reliable sources, not associated with the artist, who have written about his work. He may be notable, but the author needs to establish notability. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:38, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Ralph Garafola (Artist, Author, Educator of Fine Art) (born Ralph W. Garafola, December 4, 1929, Brooklyn, NY) is an American painter currently living in Warren Twp, New Jersey and Florida. Garafola has made a living as a commercial illustrator and fine artist for over 65 years and brings his style of contemporary realism to his oil and watercolor paintings of portraits, landscapes, seascapes, animals/pets and still life.
Background
Ralph Garafola was raised in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, and studied at the Art Students League of New York for seven years. He served as class monitor for Frank J. Reilly, an instructor at the League and Commissioner of Art for New York City. Garafola teaches in Florida at the Art Center Sarasota and Art by the Bay Sarasota. He also taught at the Ringling College of Art and Design and the Art Center Manatee. In New Jersey he taught at the duCret School of Art. Garafola is also available for private lessons. www.ralphgarafola.com
Life and Work
Garafola's portraits and still lifes capture the personality and character of his subjects while his landscapes and seascapes capture the mood of the scenes. Garafola says, "All my paintings are portraits. Whether my subject is a person, landscape, seascape or still life, my approach is to portray my subject in its natural environment. It puts the viewer inside the painting. My paintings realistically depict what nature has created."
He painted “The Price of Liberty & Freedom” as a dedication to the ultimate sacrifice made by our heroes so we can continue living with the freedoms we have in our nation. Garafola, a veteran of the Korean War, long believed these fallen heroes should be honored with more than a photo on a mantle or bureau. He created this beautiful painting that can be personalized with the photo of your hero – creating a heartfelt work of art that truly honors their sacrifice. You can purchase a giclee reproduction with your Hero’s photo inserted into the frame.
Ralph Garafola is also the Author of..."Frank J. Reilly - The Elements of Painting" is a must read for both the aspiring painter and accomplished artist – and everyone in between. Pure Frank Reilly method; this book presents principles and concepts of craftsmanship involved in the graphic arts. The guidelines presented here will help students, art teachers and professional painters and designers discover and/or further develop their craft. It also assists art teachers and art schools in the instruction of their students and serves well as a college text book of art.
