List of international cricket centuries at the Adelaide Oval

List of international cricket centuries at the Adelaide Oval (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Nominator(s): Yellow Dingo (talk) 08:36, 16 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm nominating this for FL status because I think it meets the criteria. I based this list of List of international cricket centuries at the Green Park Stadium (a FL). This is my first nomination and I'm looking forward to it. Thanks to any reviewers in advance. - Yellow Dingo (talk) 08:36, 16 July 2016 (UTC) [reply]

Comments (includes source review)
  • "It is the home ground of the South Australia cricket team, the Adelaide Strikers and the Adelaide Strikers Women as well as Australian rules football and soccer teams," source does not explicitly state which soccer teams the Oval is home to. I don't quite get this point as the article doesn't mention teams either. The source does say the ground hosts soccer (in the table at the bottom)
  • "The ground has hosted 74 Test matches," as of? Done
  • One sentence begins with the sentence "As of July 2016, Brian Lara's 156 against the....," and it's followed by "As of July 2016, thirty ODI centuries...," could you find a way to avoid repetitiveness? Fixed
  • Under key, "Drawn denotes that the match was drawn," not sure how this helps the reader? Explain what 'draw' is – so it denotes that the result of the match is not a win or loss; "when a team does not complete its innings by the scheduled end of play" Not done - It is wikilinked so readers can follow that
  • But some readers may not want to follow it. Having the wikilink is fine but there's no harm in summarising what a 'draw' means in cricket. What is currently written adds nothing, at least in my opinion. Lemonade51 (talk) 22:29, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • You could add row scopes to the table, per MOS:DTT Done
  • Are you able to justify Ref 7 (cricketcounty.com) as a high-quality, reliable source? Removed as redundant
  • Spotchecked a select few table figures, no issues. Thanks
  • No dead or dab links. Thanks

@Lemonade51: I have replied to all your comments above, implementing most. With the thing about the draw I think the wikilink is sufficient explanation and is concise. Thank you a lot for your comments. - Yellow Dingo (talk) 11:43, 18 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Lemonade51: Implemented that one point. Thanks for your comments and sorry for striking them earlier. - Yellow Dingo (talk) 05:27, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • "the Adelaide Strikers and the Adelaide Strikers Women " reads yuck, maybe "Adelaide Strikers mens' and womens' teams" or something, especially because the latter of your two links is a redirect and there's no such thing as "Adelaide Strikers Women". Reworded (btw there is such a thing as the Adelaide Strikers women (see Adelaide Strikers (WBBL)))
  • "The ground has also been used as a Test,...." since you're off into other sports in the preceding sentence, I'd advocate something like "The ground has also hosted international cricket matches, including Test ...." Reworded
  • "As of July 2016, the ground has hosted 74 Test matches, since the first one in " nah, no "since" there, perhaps "the first being" or "The first Test match hosted at the ground was in ... ; as of July 2016, the ground has been the venue for 74 Test matches." Reworded
  • "by a margin of five wickets" remove "a margin of". Done
  • " with the first one being in 2011 when England beat Australia by one wicket.[" -> ", the first in 2011 when ..." Done
  • "first test match" consistent capitalisation. Done
  • "match McDonnell made" -> "match in which McDonnell made" Reworded
  • "early 1932" hyphen. I'm not sure what you mean here
Ignore it. My mistake. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:40, 28 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Australia's Michael Clarke have scored" has. Done
  • " Brian Lara's 156 against the West Indies" against?! Fixed
  • Mention Virat Kholi's nationality. Done
    • Draw or Drawn - check results column. Standardised
  • When sorting in reverse date order, the No. col isn't in reverse precisely. I see what you mean but I don't know how too fix it; do you have any ideas?
  • Strike rate is usually included in ODI lists. Not done. None of the other 4 FLs for List of international cricket centuries at [ground] style lists use SR in the ODI list

That's my lot in a quick trawl. The Rambling Man (talk) 21:45, 24 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@The Rambling Man: I have replied to all or your queries above. - Yellow Dingo (talk) 07:06, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@The Rambling Man: I have fixed your one outstanding query. - Yellow Dingo (talk) 06:20, 29 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Comments

  • "The ground has also hosted..." I don't think also is necessary here. It's implied international have been held at the ground in the title. Removed
  • "with the first being in 1884..." -> the first in 1884 Changed
  • "in what was Adelaide Oval's first Test match." -> in the first Test match at the Adelaide Oval Changed
  • "Thirty ODI centuries..." you have 74 and thirty in the lead. You need to be consistent with either numerals or spelling them out. Fixed
  • "In the three T20Is at the ground, no centuries have been scored with the highest score being 90 not out by Virat Kohli for India." -> Virat Kohli's 90 not out is the highest scores in the three T20Is held at the ground. Changed except "highest score" instead of "highest scores
  • A few of the date rows in the Test table have stray } in them. Fixed
