The World Economics Association (WEA) is a professional association, launched in 2011, which promotes a pluralistic approach to economics. [1] [2] [3]

Its key principles include worldwide membership and governance, and inclusiveness towards the variety of theoretical perspectives and applications of economics. The WEA is registered under United Kingdom law as a non-profit Community Interest Company.

The WEA publishes three peer-reviewed open access academic journals: Economic Thought, World Economic Review, and real-world economics review. It also publishes books, has a bi-monthly newsletter, and hosts open access, online conferences.

According to its manifesto, the WEA is committed towards plurality (e.g. in methods and approaches), professional competence, relevance to the real world, diversity in membership, openness, outreach, ethical conduct, and global democracy. [4]

The WEA was initiated by Edward Fullbrook, Peter Radford, Norbert Häring, Grazia Ietto Gillies, Vicki Harris, and Valerie Radford. The idea for the organisation came from a 2010 paper by Edward Fullbrook, entitled “How to bring economics into the 3rd millennium by 2020”, which identified the need to reshape the profession of economics following the Great Recession. [5]

The Executive Committee consists of: Juan Carlos Moreno Brid, C. P. Chandrasekhar, Ping Chen, Edward Fullbrook, James K. Galbraith, Grazia Ietto-Gillies, Steve Keen, Richard Koo, Tony Lawson, Peter Radford, and Dani Rodrik.
