Ivashevka massacre (Russian: Ма́ссовое уби́йство в Ива́шевке) — mass-killing of one family (one girl survived in spite of heavy wounds) of 6 persons, during night time, 24 of April 2016 in a village Ivashevka, Syzransky district (rayon, Russian: Район), Samara region (oblast, Russian: Область). The family members consisted of: high-rank policeman, deputy head of police HQ in Samara oblast (25 years of service, used to be the head of Syzran town police in 2013-2015) colonel Andrey Gosht (Russian: Андрей Гошт) 49 years old, his wife Svetlana, his mother Natalia (owner of the house), his father Vilgelm (owner of the house), his brother's wife Elena and her daughter (his niece) Svetlana. Another his nice, 7 years old miraculously survived but suffered extensive damage and long period coma.

Preliminary evaluation

The whole family was found severely beaten and lie dead in their beds or nearby in their own house (both floors). Andrey Gosht's brother Evgeniy came to the place around 7:30 next morning (after his night shift work) found the bodies and called the ambulance. The victims were severely beaten with sticks and the body of Andrey Gosht had some signs of torture like he was interrogated by killers. Police soon found that the video-recording server for CCTV cameras around the house was stolen by the killers but three cameras under the roof had separate (inside the camera) recording devices. Strange facts made all case a lot more suspicious: Andrey Gosht has hired a security to guard this house with his family when he is working in Samara city but release it each time he was in the place (like it was that Sunday), the family had a guard dog which was poisoned just a week before. The police declared 3 million rubles bounty for any information which could lead to the capture of the killers.

Investigation

Police announced the bounty: 3 million of rouble for the essential help in the perpetrator's search. [1]

Local police for Samara region said that the purpose of the crime was robbery. [2]

The SK / IC spokesman informed media that they have three main versions of the crime but can not explain it because of the investigation's secrecy. Cite error: The <ref> tag name cannot be a simple integer (see the help page).

First three suspects were caught during night to 1st of May [3] (and SK / IC confirmed it later [4]), 2nd of May they were transfered to Syzran.[5] These three citizens of Azerbaijan (TV spelled their names as — Babaev Islam Azru-Ogly, Zohrabov Orhan Shyrali-Ogly, Fataliev Roman Rauf-Ogly [6]) gave their confessions about the [7]. They were charged with murder and robbery 4th of May [8] All suspects lived in the small village Shigony Шигоны and Kushnikovo (34 km from the crime scene) and in the town Сызрань.

  1. Roman Fataliev (23 years old) — from Azerbaijan, lived in the village Shigony, officially unemployed, but worked unofficially on the construction sites (He had the criminal record during his school time - two years on probation for racketeering, assault and battery[9]).
  2. Islam Babaev (21 years old) — from Azerbaijan, lived in the town Syzran, worked with his brother as a builder on the construction sites.
  3. Orhan Zohrabov — from Azerbaijan, lived in the village Shigony, studied in polytechnical college (He had the criminal record - three years in prison for stealing some sheep. [10])[11].
  4. Makhmadali Akhmadov (24 years old), Tajik (married local woman which he converts to Islam, they have a common child), lived in the Kushnikovo.

Their photos are here: [12]. The last suspect Akhamadov managed to run away to homeland Tajikistan through Kazahstan one day before the other three suspects were arrested.[13]. He was probably apprehended 4th of May in Moscow international airport Domodedovo there he took a flight from his home city Dushanbe. [14]). But Samara region police chief Sergey Solodovnikov said of the briefing quite a different story: [15] Akhmadov was caught 3rd of May just on the border line between Tajikistan and Afganistan. He was flown to Moscow by airplane already detained [16], and then to Syzran [17]. Investigators concluded that he was the leader and the mastermind behind the crime. [18] [19] Akhamadov managed to say to reporters in Syzran that he is not guilty. [20] Even more strange news came: Tajikistan police officials reported that nobody caught Akhmadov on the Afgan border since he was not even in the search[21] and «Makhmadali Akhmadov said that he is not guilty, has nothing to do with the crime, and going to return to Russian Federation to prove his innoncens». [22] [23]

Crime reconstruction

Investigators concluded: the gang prepared themselves for the thief or robbery in the village Ivashevka. The gang leader and organizer Akhmadov prepared a sticks / bats / reo-armature as a weapon. All four gathered together 23rd of April around 22:00 near the cafeteria in Syzran and drove to Ivashevka changing two cars in the process. The criminals chose from two rich houses the one there the lights went off during the night time. They left the car near the village club, went to the house through the field and get into the yard from the back side, then into the house through the unclosed backdoor.[24] The perpetrators killed all people on the first then on the second floor. They went out taking the video surveillance system with them. They took the following valuables: two mobile phones, tablet and 900 roubles in the Gosht's wallet.[25] Then they drove to Ulyanovsk city but with one stop before the river Tisherek: they dig down and cover the video surveillance system and bloody sticks / bats. They stopped near shop/supermarket "Magnit" in Ulyanovsk there Fataliev tried to get money from "Sberbank" ATM using the Gosht's plastic bank card (having no idea about PIN code). The video from the ATM is one of the main evidence in this criminal case.[26]

Alternative versions

Some experts are doubtful about official version: just a blind robbery turned to the massacre. They are pointing to the ridiculously small gain for the robbers, to the special cruelty of the crime and to the very long, profound and elaborate preparations taken (the dog was poisoned months before)[27], and the dogs in the neighboring houses were poisoned a few weeks before. [28] Former famous investigator Telman Gdlyan Гдлян, Тельман Хоренович thinks that more experienced criminals (who wanted to make a revenge to police officer) could gave the recon info and whole idea about this house to the suspects «Criminal structures could give a recon and hints to these guys, like saying that there are a lot of money in the house or gold or something - it's indirect pushing to the desired crime».[29]

Another former investigator for important cases (by the Procurator_General_of_the_Soviet_Union in USSR times), now the lawyer Vladimir Kalinichenko thinks there is a parallel to the GTA gang terror crimes and said: "at least this lack of proper property robbed tell me that the motives of the crime could be absolutely different. I have my own version. I know that during the las 10-15 years, especially in Moscow region, in the flats and in the rural houses one can see incoming people of Caucasian ethnicity or from Middle Asia, they try to assimilate here, to live with weapons, try to propagate some literature. The news in media just before these killings informed that one house of worship was discovered and captured by authorities nearby,[30] 60 persons were detained[31][32]. They had explosives, weapons, extremist's literature and so on in this house.[33] What's why I still have version: the crimes of absolutely other motivations today just started or beginning to start, there are no robberies here. We are talking about the destabilization of the situation on the territory of Russia through committing such a crimes. All of that existed and exists now in the West too, we had it several years ago and now it's flourishing»[34]

Political reaction

The political reaction followed after the moment then the names, ethnicity, citizenships of the suspects were uncovered.

Senator from the Federation Council (Russia) Franc Klincevich made a very unusual and surprising for the ruling party "United Russia" political statement about the necessity of strict visa regime with Middle Asia (exUSSR) countries [35] (except Kazakhstan and Kyrgizstan)[36] and about the need to sharpen the requirements for receiving the citizenship of Russia. [37] «Sadistic killing of Syzran police ex-head with his family by the migrants from Middle Asia - it's just already above the limit ... we all have a memory about the terrible death of Moscow child made by the hands of the crazy babysitter from Uzbekistan». Klincevich said directly that we need to define, what is more important? goog relations with former Soviet republics or the safety of the citizens of Russia?[38] Even the human rights advocates supported this idea. [39]

Later, other politicians also joined the support for the visa regime, taking into account the public reaction from the mass growl (with shooting) of migrants from Middle Asia against the North Caucasus ethnical gangs on the Khovanskoye Cemetery (south of Moscow) 13th of May 2016 (500 persons involved, 3 killed, 50 arrested). One more senator from Federation Council (Russia) and first Deputy of Defence and Security Committee in it, Evgeniy Serebrennikov proposed to enforce the visa regime for the list of the countries, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan among it, just to prevent such incidents [40] [41] [42].

The court

The court sessions started 24th of October 2016 and they are all closed (because of ?) [43]. The suspects appeared before TV cameras only during the end of the session but one can see smiles, smirk, grins on their faces - one of them said "No, of course not!" on reporter's questions if they are guilty. [44]. Two of the suspects demanded the trial jury - it will be formed in two weeks. [45]
