Range map of the commonly accepted subspecies of the lion (Panthera leo) in the second half of the 20th century (P. l. azandica and P. l. nubica are not seperately distinguished because the type specimen of azandicus (northeastern Congo-Kinshasa) does not fit into the subspecies range in the map by Haas et al. Genetic clades of Congolese or Central African lions
Panthera leo leo Panthera leo melanochaita
The Senegal lion, also called the "West African lion" and formerly classified as Panthera leo senegalensis. Present in Congo-Kinshasa.
The Uganda lion, also called the "Congo lion" and formerly classified as Panthera leo azandica, with a rather big mane. Present in Northeastern Congo-Kinshasa (where Virunga National Park is located) and Uganda (East Africa).
The Katanga lion, also called the "Southwest African lion" and formerly classified as Panthera leo bleyenberghi. The type specimen was from the Congo's Katanga Province.

@BhagyaMani: Not only have you removed the work of Reginald Innes Pocock (whom you had accepted as being reliable) on the size of Central African lions from this article again,[1] even though the 'improve' tag had been added after you did that the first time, your actions suggest that the works of people like Allen,[2] Haas et al.,[3] and Heptner and Sludskii (1972),[4] on Central African lions are irrelevant, even though I just recently explained to you that Central African lions are not all the same.
