Kukun (pronounced ‘cocoon’) is a home renovation resource platform. Founded in 2014 by CEO Raf Howery, the company gives home owners online tools to complete renovation projects on time and on budget.[1]

History

Before launching Kukun, Raf’s professional experience was as an executive with Bell Atlantic. Raf later joined Ernst & Young as a senior vice president, VP of Global Channels at Capgemini, and lastly, Capgemini as the senior vice president and head of Infra Strategy and Ecosystem. Following his tenure at Capgemini, Raf launched Kukun -- originally as a project estimating component and professional member locator. The aim was to help homeowners better understand the remodeling process, and even convert more homeowners into remodeling clients by offering free online estimates for a variety of home improvement projects.[2]

Platform

Kukun  provides estimates as to what a home renovation should cost in a particular market, and allows professionals to bid on projects based on those estimates.[3] The company also sells software that calculates potential project costs, the hypothetical return on investment of a project, and a general idea of the financial return on investment for the project if the house or development are sold.[4][5]. These products are offered in both business and consumer versions.

La Boutique

Kukun also runs La Boutique, an ecommerce site that gives homeowners access to design products from French and European artisans.[6]

Funding

To date, Kukun has raised $1 million-plus in funding from angel investors.[7]

Partnerships

Partnerships include Berkshire Hathaway Homeservices companies Harry Norman REALTORS and Intero Real Estate, and Fine Signature.[8]
