María Luisa "Malu" Trevejo (/trɛˈvɛˌhoʊ/; born October 15, 2002) is a Cuban-American[1] social media personality, dancer and singer-songwriter based in Miami, United States.[2] She initially rose to fame as an avid Instagram user having more than 5 million followers on the app and Musical.ly user with 2 million fans on the app[3] before gaining a following as a singer. On September 22, 2017, she released her début single "Luna Llena" through Universal Music Latin.[4]

Early life

Trevejo was born in Havana, Cuba to a Cuban mother and a Spanish father.[5][6] Shortly after her birth, she and her parents moved to Madrid where she lived for 11 years.[7] She later relocated to Miami with her mother.[8] After the start of her music career, Trevejo enrolled in a home school program.[6]

Career

Her debut single "Luna Llena", which was produced by the Fliptones,[7] reached 33 million YouTube views within seven weeks of release.[9] Trevejo was recognized as one of Pandora Radio's 2018 Latin Artists to Watch.[10] Trevejo has stated that her upcoming album will be Spanglish, including both English and Spanish-language songs.[6] In June 2017, she signed a recording contract with In-Tu Linea, a division of the Universal Music Latin Entertainment label.[7] "Luna Llena" debuted on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart at 27 and sold over 2,000 downloads at the time.[11]
