Unfriended: Dark Web is a 2018 American found footage horror film written and directed by Stephen Susco. It stars Colin Woodell, Rebecca Rittenhouse, Betty Gabriel, and Andrew Lees.[1] It is a stand-alone sequel to the 2014 film Unfriended.

The film had its world premiere at South by Southwest on March 9, 2018. It is scheduled to be released on July 20, 2018 by OTL Releasing and BH Tilt.

Plot

20-something Matias opens up a new laptop he found in a lost-and-found bin and finds a cache of secret files on it. While on a video call with his friends, he discovers the disturbing nature of the files. They soon discover that the previous owner is aware of this and has been watching them, and they will do anything to get the laptop back.

Production

The film was shot in secret in 2017.[2]

Release

The film had its premiere at SXSW in March 2018, in a surprise announcement.[3][4] In April 2018, the film was screened at the Overlook Film Festival with an entirely different ending.[5] It is scheduled to be released on July 20, 2018.[6]

Reception

On review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of 67% based on 9 reviews, and an average rating of 6/10.[7] On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 63 out of 100, based on 4 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[8]
