Charles Augustin White (born Vladislav Boguinia, June 21, 1992) is an American-Russian composer, music educator, pianist, guitarist, songwriter and record producer. He is the guitarist and songwriter of the pop-rock/electronic dance music group House of Faces. He studied music at the Mannes School of Music - The New School, NYU Steinhardt and The University of Oxford. He has worked and performed with groups such as the Kronos Quartet, JACK Quartet, Moscow String Quartet, Sō Percussion, and the ÆON Music Ensemble. His music has been performed at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Symphony Space, Le Poisson Rouge, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and others.
Early Life
Wilde demonstrated aptitude for music at an early age, excelling as both a violinist and pianist. His musical talents where nurtured by his mother Vivien Wilde (born Natalia Boguinia) who introduced him to an array of musical genres ranging from Led Zeppelin to Ligeti. The family relocated to Boulder Colorado in 2000. In Boulder Lawrence was noticed by composer Daniel Kellogg who recognised his compositional abilities and taught him composition privately. In 2009 Wilde and his brother were accepted to the Interlochen Center for the Arts.[1]
Education
Wilde completed his undergraduate studies in music composition at the Juilliard School where he worked with Samuel Adler and Christopher Rouse. Upon completing his undergraduate studies at Juilliard, Wilde went on to pursue a PhD at Princeton University where he worked with Steven Mackey, Dmitri Tymoczko and Dan Trueman. In 2012 Wilde won the Juilliard Orchestra Competition with his work Margarita at the Ball for piano and orchestra, the work was premiered by the Juilliard Orchestra and pianist Maxwell Foster conducted by Jeffery Milarsky.[2] In 2015 Wilde was named a Bang on a Can Summer Festival Fellow and worked with composers David Lang, Julia Wolfe and Michael Gordon at MASS MOCA.
