Life

Jennie Kim was born in 1996 in Anyang, South Korea. At the age of 9, she was on a trip to Australia and New Zealand with her family. When they arrived in New Zealand, her mother offered her to live there.[2] A year later she was sent to a host family in Auckland, New Zealand in order to receive higher education at ACG Parnell College and learn the language.[3] In 2006, she appeared in the MBC special documentary "English, Must Change to Survive" and spoke about her experiences with the language and her life in New Zealand.[4] Ever since she lived in New Zealand, she often listened to K-pop and has found particular interest in the artists of YG Entertainment. YGE which specializes in hip-hop and R&B has the most westernish sound out of the three big companies in South Korea. [6] Jennie likes this rather "dark" image, this is is why she wanted to work for YGE right from the start in case she aimed to become a celebrity.[5] In 2010 she moved back to South Korea and participated in an audition held by YGE. She sang Rihanna's Take A Bow and passed the audition.[6] However she had to go against the wishes of her mother who wanted to send Jennie to the US for her to continue her education and pursue a profession such as a teacher or lawyer.[7] After addressing her true goals Jennie received the full support of her family.[8] Back in South Korea, she attended the Chungdam High School.[3]

Jennie Kim is 1.63m tall and speaks Korean, Japanese and English fluently. Her father owns a hospital and her mother is a shareholder of the media company CJE&M[9].
