Tema Staig (Art Director)

Tema Staig is an American Production Designer, Art Director and a Theater, Film and TV Professor at Santa Monica College as well as the Los Angeles City College[1]. She is the founder of the non-profit organization Women In Media established in Los Angeles, CA [2]and the #Hirethesewomen crewlist[3]. She is best known for her work on the feature films Kissing Jessica Stein, Happy Hour, Battlefield America, and American Splendor. She was a pilot IFP on NY Fellow and produced the Independent Film Maker Project Involve NY award winning short “Present: A Moment In the Future”, directed by Jacqueline Kim (Star Trek: Generations, The West Wing, Advantageous).

Early Life

Tema Sara Levine[4] was born in Summit, NJ, daughter of Rosalind and Irving Levine. During her time at Toms River High School East, she was a member the Communications Arts and Sciences club, where she learned how to use camera and production equipment and the Radio Club. Tema received her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University and Masters of Fine Art from Tisch School Of The Arts.

Tema started off as a VJ and editor for a Boston night club at the age of nineteen. When the club closed she got another job as the art and lighting director at The Roxy Night club and later was hired as a dj at another one of their clubs called VHF.[5]
