Meg Mathews on the launch of her MegsMenopause Intimate Beauty Range

Meg Mathews (born March 14, 1966) is an activist and entrepreneur.[1] She rose to fame in the Britpop scene while working in music management.[2] In 2018, she launched MegsMenopause,[3] a platform dedicated to breaking the stigma around the menopause.[4][5]

Early Life and Career

Mathews was born in Guernsey to parents Christine and Stan. She grew up in South Africa from the age of 9, then attended boarding school in Norwich.[6][7] She moved to London at the age of 18 and started working in fashion PR.[2] Eventually, she began working in music management at Def Jam Records.[8]

Mathews then got into the business of interior design, with clients including Cher, Jo Wood, Kate Moss, and Nick Grimshaw.[9][10] As she explains, "I did a shoot in Hello when I did up my old house. I was walking down Regent’s Street when my phone rang and it was Victoria Beckham. She said she had seen the feature and wanted to know who had designed the wallpaper. I told her it was me and she asked me to come and do her house. I created a one-off wallpaper for her, and that was my first interior design client."[8]

In 2014, Mathews began working for PETA as their Celebrity Liaison, actively campaigning for animal rights.[11] During her time there, she designed a vegan handbag with the accessories company Wilby, with proceeds going to PETA.[12][13][14][15]

MegsMenopause

Currently, Mathews has devoted her time to breaking the stigma around the menopause through her platform, MegsMenopause, launched in January 2018. According to her website, "Meg turned fifty and began to experience the first symptoms of the menopause. She was shocked at the lack of support and understanding shown to women during this time in their lives and made it her mission to break the stigma around the menopause."[16] She then made it her mission to break the stigma and the taboo around the menopause[16] in an honest, open way through social media, her website, and attends many conferences to talk about her work and experience.

This journey has landed her spots on national and international press and talkshows appeared on Loose Women, BBC Radio, Lorraine, and Jeremy Vine promoting the cause.[17][18][19][20] Meg has been invited to conduct talks at organisations such as Foreign & Commonwealth Office, BBC headquarters, John Lewis and Partners, Stella Live by The Telegraph and, Superdrug on how to deal with menopause in the workplace.[16][21][22][23][24][25][26] She has also spoken at the Women Mean Business Conference for The Daily Telegraph, the Women in News, BBC Victoria Derbyshire, BBC Breakfast News.[27][28] Meg has spoken on numerous radio shows along the years such and has been onIrish National Radio, on The Ryan Tubridy Show, BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Radio Sheffield, and BBC Radio 4 Woman's Hour.[29][30]

Meg is currently an online columnist for Red magazine and was named by the publication as one of their Top 20 Career Shifters in 2017.[31][32] In November 2018, Meg was awarded the Inspiring Public Figure of the Year award by the Inspirational Leadership Trust. [33][34]

Meg Mathews shares her life and her work on various platforms, including podcasts. She has recorded a podcast on Grazia Life Advice talking about MegsMenopause being her passion.[35] Mathews featured on School for Mothers Podcast on Stitcher.
