Sassenach (formerly Sassenuagh) is a [[Gaelic]] term used in both Scotland and Ireland for the then-Saxon—now English—neighbours; in modern parlance it is often usually a (friendly) term of abuse or a term used in jest. There is a similar [[Welsh language|Welsh]] term "Saes", although this is not often heard outside Wales.
