He is a great general and a near-peerless tactician. He also has a desire for young girls as he threatens both Tana and Amelia in a sexual way. He purposely throws the fight against Ephraim to further his diabolical schemes, or so do his loyal subjects say. What really happened, or so claim Gheb's opposition, is that Ephraim managed to attack Gheb's weakpoint (his sexy man legs) for '''MASSIVE DAMAGE'''. This cost Gheb 599 Health Points, yet he only had 598 Health Points. Gheb, like his top-notch supporters Batta the Beast and Glass the Peerless, died. But many of his devoted followers support and carry on his name to this day, claiming that Gheb will resurrect, like the true God he is, on the third day.

Eirika

Eirika, Restoration Queen

Class: Lord -> Great Lord

Eirika is the daughter of King Fado, twin younger sister of Prince Ephraim and the princess of Renais. She is a competent swordfighter, having learned the art of swordplay from her brother and later from Seth; however, she believes in looking for more diplomatic solutions before relying on strength. Also notable is her inherent gullibility, as mentioned and demonstrated numerous times. She has a very close friendship with both Princess Tana of Frelia and Prince Lyon of Grado. She wears the Lunar Brace, which is one of a pair of bracelets that together grant access to Renais's Sacred Stone.

She's the princess of Renais, who has been forced to flee for her life as her land is invaded by Grado and her father slain. She is strong-willed and pure of heart, and well-loved by her people for her compassion and wisdom beyond her years. She seeks to locate her brother Ephraim and join forces with him in his guerilla war against Grado.

Normal ending Eirika returned to Renais and began the reconstruction effort with her brother, Ephraim. Seeing peace return to the lives of her people filled her with hapiness. Her smile became a symbol of her people's joy.

Eirika/Seth ending: Upon their return to Renais, Eirika and Seth were wed, with the blessings of Ephraim and all of the Knights of Renais. The tale of the love that grew between a princess and her loyal knight became a beloved romance in Renais.

Eirika/Ephraim ending Busy days awaited Eirika and Ephraim as they struggled to rebuild Renais. Their work gave new hope to those ravaged by the war, and with Eirika's constant help, Ephraim grew to be a trusted and honorable king.

Eirika/Innes ending After the reconstruction of Renais, Innes challenged Ephraim to a duel. The match ended in a tie. After the fight, Eirika acknowledged her love for Innes, and the two were wed with Ephraim's blessings.

Eirika/Forde ending After the war, Eirika and Forde returned to Renais. Eirika spent her days toiling in the reconstruction of Renais, and he was her faithful supporter. His portrait of Eirika captured the smile he had thought lost forever.

Eirika/Saleh ending After the war, Eirika and Saleh returned to their respective homes. Eirika visited Caer Pelyn when she could. Eventually, she left Renais in the care of her brother and wed Saleh. Their daughter resembles the legendary Nada Kuya.

Eirika/Tana ending Following the war, Tana and Eirika remained the best of friends. They visited one another when time permitted, and as they grew older, their children shared a bond of friendship as close as Eirika and Tana themselves did.

Ephraim

Ephraim, Restoration King

Class: Lord -> Great Lord

Ephraim is the crown prince of Renais and Eirika's older twin brother. His skill with a lance is unsurpassed by any other in his country. He is also an excellent tactician whose motto is "I don't pick fights I cannot win." He has a semi-friendly rivalry with Prince Innes of Frelia and is also good friends with Prince Lyon of Grado. He wears the Solar Brace which is one of a pair of bracelets that together grant access to Renais's Sacred Stone.

The crown prince of Renais, Ephraim, is engaged in guerilla war against Grado at the time of his father's death. Blaming himself for his inability to aid his father in that time of need, Ephraim journeys back towards his homeland in hopes of finding his sister, Erika, who has now disappeared in the wake of the invasion. Ephraim is passionate and headstrong, and well-liked for his candid, direct manner.

Ephraim is away on a journey with three of his guards, Kyle, Forde, and Orson when Grado attacks Renais. In an attempt to divert Grado troops from the invasion, he starts a guerrilla campaign within Grado and commits strategic strikes to weaken its position. He also wants to find Prince Lyon to unravel the mystery of Grado's sudden invasion.

Normal ending Busy days awaited him upon his return to Renais. He oversaw the rebuilding not only of his country but also of the entire continent of Magvel. His work was difficult, but his success made him a legend

Ephraim/Tana ending Once Renais was stable again, Ephraim and Tana were wed. Innes protested vocally, but when he saw how happy Tana was, he gave the marriage his blessings. Renais and Frelia are now bound by blood as well as friendship.

Ephraim/Eirika ending Busy days awaited Eirika and Ephraim as they struggled to rebuild Renais. Their work gave new hope to those ravaged by the war, and with Eirika's constant help, Ephraim grew to be a trusted and honorable king.

Ephraim/L'Arachel ending Ephraim and L'Arachel each returned home after the war, but L'Arachel visited Renais often. Over time, the two were wed. Their marriage threw Rausten into turmoil, but L'Arachel's self-centeredness carried the day.

Ephraim/Myrrh ending After the war, Ephraim returned to Renais and Myrrh to Darkling Woods. They both turned their attention to their respective duties but never forgot one another. Though Myrrh never again left Darkling Woods, Ephraim often visited her.

Class: Mage -> Sage or Mage Knight

An extremely studious, if not eccentric, young mage. Lute believes she is a prodigy, and tells this to everyone she meets. Given her enormous wealth of knowledge and her alleged ability to remember practically everything she reads, hears, and sees, it is hard to argue with her. She's the opposite of her best friend, Artur, in that she spends most of her time inside studying as opposed to being outside. She has a motto: "There's no one better than me!." Lute is boastful and has a habit of "monk watching" (spying on Artur).

Joshua, the Tempest King

Class: Myrmidon -> Swordmaster or Assassin

A wandering swordsman from Jehanna with a fervor for gambling. In Eirika's route, he is revealed to be the Prince of Jehanna, who disappeared about ten years prior to the beginning of the story, abandoning both his mother, Ismaire, and his title so he could better learn about his people's needs and become worthy of the crown in his own eyes. During this time he worked with Caellach in a mercenary troop, and appears to have earned a penchant for stirring up trouble off the job. Class: Cavalier -> Paladin or Great Knight

Kyle is an intensely loyal and intelligent young knight. He is very devoted to Ephraim and is a fierce rival, yet also best friend to Forde. Their rivalry seemingly started out from a tournament, in which he was defeated by Forde, which made him start focusing on his training to never lose to him again. He is the brother of Franz, and is a rather accomplished painter in his spare time. When Forde was young he won a sword contest and his mother was happy, not for his contest, but for the painting he had made for her early that day. She kept it with her even when she died, it was only then that Forde took the painting back. He hung it, in his house, as a reminder of how he must countuine to make people happy, not with his sword, but with his brush.

Tana, the Winged Queen

Class: Pegasus Knight -> Falco Knight or Wyvern Knight

The princess of Frelia and sister of Innes, she joined the army in order to accompany her friends and brother to war, having trained under Syrene and Vanessa. She is cheery, sociable, a little airheaded and appears to harbor a crush on Ephraim, although she envies Ephraim and Eirika's close relationship and wishes her own relationship with Innes could be better. She also strongly refuses to have people taking care of her, wishing to be seen as more of an adult than a young girl in battle.

Normal ending: Tana lived happily in the prosperous post-war Frelia. She flew to Renais often to visit her dear friend Eirika.

Ephraim/Tana ending: Once Renais was stable again, Ephraim and Tana were wed. Innes protested vocally, but when he saw how happy Tana was, he gave the marriage his blessings. Renais and Frelia are now bound by blood as well as friendship.

Tana/Cormag ending: Cormag returned to Grado to assist in the reconstruction of his country. Shortly after, he left to wander on his own. Tana spent years looking for him. In time, she found him and knighted him in Frelia's service.

Amelia, Rose of the war

Class: Recruit -> Knight or Cavalier -> General or Great Knight (if promoted to Knight), Paladin or Great Knight (if promoted to Cavalier)

An orphan from a small Grado village named Silva, Amelia is a young girl inexperienced in combat. She joined the army to protect her loved ones, this due to her father dying when she was a toddler and her mother being kidnapped by bandits when she was little. Propaganda about Eirika and Ephraim being cruel people might have also affected her; however, the propaganda is dispelled when she actually meets Ephraim, Eirika or Franz, the ones able to recruit her. Amelia learns quickly, and her honest, determined nature proves useful.

In her support conversations, Amelia develops either a friendly rivalry with Franz, a brother/sister bond with Ross, or a newfound wanderlust with Ewan. Also, in a support conversation with Duessel, Amelia finds that her mother Melina is still alive, but has lost her memories; they're reunited, and Amelia becomes Duessel's right hand to repay him.

Like Ross and Ewan, Amelia is a trainee unit, meaning she will be one of your strongest characters if you take the time to raise her.

Normal ending: Following the war, she returned to Grado to assist in her country's reconstruction. She surrounded herself with new friends and used the strength she found on the battlefield to live her life in happiness.

Ewan/Amelia ending: After the war, Ewan and Amelia set out, as promised, on a trip around the world. Their deeds along the way made small legends in the regions they visited. In time, Amelia gave birth to a daughter, and they settled down.

Duessel/Amelia ending: Upon their return to Grado, Duessel reunited Amelia with her mother. The two wept with joy, giving thanks to Duessel. Afterward, Amelia became the most trusted companion of the man once known as Obsidian.

Innes, King and Strategician

Class: Sniper

The arrogant prince of Frelia, he is famed for his immense skill with the bow. Innes is extremely brash and proud, and harbors an intense, yet semi-friendly rivalry with Ephraim. At heart, however, he is a good and just person. He also tends to be pretty harsh and severe with his sister Tana, whom he wants to spare from the horrors of war; several times he tries to convince her to return to Frelia, but is unsuccessful. Also, the Pegasus Knight Vanessa has a crush on him.

Normal ending: As time went on, he succeeded his father, Hayden, as King of Frelia. His resourcefulness and tactical prowess helped him build a court of loyal vassals that served to lead country to greater prosperity.

Innes/L'Arachel ending: Stories tell of the sparks that flew between L'Arachel and Innes when they first met. As the love between them flourished, so too did the bond that united their two nations.

Innes/Eirika ending: After the reconstruction of Renais, Innes challenged Ephraim to a duel. The match ended in a tie. After the fight, Eirika acknowledged her love for Innes, and the two were wed with Ephraim's blessings.

Innes/Vanessa ending: At Innes's request, Vanessa moved into Castle Frelia where she continued her duties as a knight of the realm. Thereafter, they had a child and lived happily with the blessings of all around them.

Gerik the Desert Tiger

Class: Mercenary -> Hero or Ranger

The leader of a small group of mercenaries, known to be kinder and more concerned about his men than most mercenary leaders, which is why girls like the dancer Tethys and the myrmidon Marisa harbour feelings for him. He hails from Jehanna, and is a very experienced and skilled swordsman. He is better known as the Desert Tiger.

Normal ending: Gerik continued as a mercenary. Over the year, his reputation grew so great that he had more job offers than he could handle. One day, without warning, he left, never to return.

Gerik/Tethys ending: Gerik and Tethys remained bound to no nation and beholden to no authority. They bought themselves a leisurely retirement. Gerik taught fencing to city youths, and Tethys found many stages on which to dance.

Gerik/Joshua ending: After the war, Joshua challenged Gerik to a duel in hopes of pressing him to move to Jehanna. The match ended in a tie, but Gerik was impressed by Joshua's swagger. From that day forward, Gerik never left Joshua's side.

Gerik/Marisa ending: Gerik remained a mercenary, and Marisa became his company's fencing instructor. Gerik returned the affection she gave him, although he was troubled to learn she was clumsy at everything but fighting.

Tethys, Beloved Dancer

Class: Dancer

Another member of Gerik's group, Tethys is the older sister of Ewan. She is a beautiful, charming dancer, and also is a native of Jehanna. She and Ewan were both abandoned by their parents when they were young; after living a sad, hard life, Tethys began dancing to make money, and with time she became famous. In a conversation with Marisa, it is revealed she is in love with Gerik as well, and jokes about making a competition with Marisa to see who can gain Gerik's love.

Normal ending: She danced from city to city, and the entire continent became her stage. Her fame grew and grew, and large crowds gathered wherever she performed.

Gerik/Tethys ending: Gerik and Tethys remained bound to no nation and beholden to no authority. They bought themselves a leisurely retirement. Gerik taught fencing to city youths, and Tethys found many stages on which to dance.

Marisa the Crimson Flash

Class: Myrmidon -> Swordmaster or Assassin

Like Karla from Fire Emblem, Marisa is an aloof and detached beauty, but is also a master of the blade, known as the Crimson Flash for her great speed. A member of Gerik's Mercenaries, she seeks to surpass her father, who was also a great swordmaster. She is unusually clumsy at everything out outside of fighting, as revealed to the player in a coversation with Gerik. It's also shown that she secretly loves Gerik, as her supports with her friendly rival Tethys reveal.

Normal ending: After the war, Marisa became battation leader for an elite mercenary force. Many men sought to challenger her to a duel, and none of them stood up to her blade.

Gerik/Marisa ending: Gerik remained a mercenary, and Marisa became his company's fencing instructor. Gerik returned the affection she gave him, although he was troubled to learn she was clumsy at everything but fighting.

Joshua/Marisa ending: Joshua returned to Jehanna with Marisa, where she pledged service to the crown and became the top swordfighter in the land. Joshua still loved games of chance, but when it came to Marisa, she was ever the winner.

L'Arachel, Queen of Light

Class: Troubadour -> Valkyrie or Mage Knight

The Princess of the theocracy of Rausten and the niece of the Divine Emperor Mansel, Rausten's Pontifex and lord. She fights for justice and order, emulating her parents who died doing the same when she was a little girl. Although L'Arachel is portrayed as completely self-obsessed and egotistical, and at many times comical because of her egotism, she is actually very helpful and kindhearted, providing information and support to both Ephraim and Eirika and comforting them in their time of need. Despite the apparent honor of her desire to rid the world of darkness and evil, she is also driven by a more-or-less selfish desire for fame.

Normal ending: She succeeded her uncle as ruler of the Rausten Theocracy several years after the war ended. She never lost her unique perspective on life. She spent much of her rule visiting the neighboring countries.

Innes/L'Arachel ending: Stories tell of the sparks that flew between L'Arachel and Innes when they first met. As the love between them flourished, so too did the bond that united their two nations.

Ephraim/L'Arachel ending: Ephraim and L'Arachel each returned home after the war, but L'Arachel visited Renais often. Over time, the two were wed. Their marriage threw Rausten into turmoil, but L'Arachel's self-centeredness carried the day.

Dozla/L'Arachel ending: L'Arachel was, in time, made queen of Rausten, with Dozla at her side, as always. Later, Dozla wept like a baby when L'Arachel was wed. His emotional outburst is remembered as much as, if not more than, the ceremony itself.

Dozla of the Steady Axe

He is an excellent dancer, having had to entertain many of his father's business associates when he was younger, and a master of scams and deceiving, as proved by Colm.

Secret characters

These characters appear either in cutscenes or as boss characters during the main story, but can be made playable in Creature Campaign, which is available upon completion of the game. They are unlocked after reaching certain floors of the Tower of Valni and Lagdou Ruins, with one exception - Lyon.

Orson the Traitor

Class: Paladin

A Paladin of Renais, in charge of the palace guards. He's a devoted husband and a serene and quiet man, who betrayed Renais for a chance to bring his deceased wife, Monica, back to life. In fact, Seth comments how Orson was known among the knights of Renais for his love and devotion to Monica, who died of illness six months prior to the events depicted in the Sacred Stones game. After his tragedy, Orson fell into a deep depression, and Grado people took advantage of it to sway him to their side.

After Monica is "revived" by Lyon as a sort-of puppet only able to call out for Orson, he loses the rest of his sanity and practically locks himself in the chambers of King Fado in Palace Renais, living in a world of his own and either unaware or in denial about the truth. He forgets about anything else and lets bandits ravage the country, until Riev tells him that Eirika and Ephraim are coming to the castle and will kill Monica. After Orson is defeated, the "puppet" Monica *is* killed by Ephraim out of mercy, since he recognizes in her the same symptoms he saw in Emperor Vigarde.

Orson is briefly playable as part of the main story in Chapter 5x (along with Ephraim, Kyle and Forde), then appears as the boss in Chapter 16. He is playable after beating the entire game, and then beating the sixth level of the Tower of Valni.

Caellach the Tiger Eye

Class: Hero

The third strongest general in Grado's army, who hails from Jehanna. The axe-wielding, ambitious, ruthless mercenary is better known as Tiger Eye. His goal is to become nothing less than a king, and will stop at nothing to achieve that goal. Caellach used to work with Joshua before joining Grado's army in order to pursue his dream. Aias the Great Knight also was his companion, and even joined Grado because of his loyalty to Caellach.

If the player uses Joshua to confront Caellach (in Chapter 15), they will have a small talk. Caellach will try to sway Joshua to his side, but his efforts are useless, as Joshua lost a bet to Natasha to see which side he shoud be loyal to in Chapter 5. In Eirika's route, it is revealed that he killed Queen Ismaire, and Joshua also mentions that in his conversation with Caellach. He dies at the assault on Jehanna Hall.

Caellach is unlocked by beating the third floor in the Tower of Valni.

Riev, Blood Beryl

Class: Bishop

Once a revered priest of Rausten, he was cast out by Pontifex Mansel for heresy and worshipping Formortiis, the Demon King. The fallen heretic priest would then become the strongest of Grado's generals. Only truly seeking to revive the Demon King from the Stone of Grado. He is very loyal to prince Lyon and somewhat acts as a caretaker to him, though this could just be because Lyon is the container of the Demon King's soul. He's also known as Blood Beryl, and has a sinister control over monsters and the undead. It is learned in Ephraim's route that Riev is responsible for the Phantom ship, a ship controlled by monsters, which sink almost anything it passes by. Serving as mostly a messager for most of the game, he finally leads two attacks, one at Rausten Court, the other at Darkling woods, where he dies.

Riev is unlocked by beating the seventh floor in the Tower of Valni.

Fado the Warrior King

Class: General

The devoted king of the monarchy of Renais, known as the Warrior King. His sole concern is for the people he leads. He is the father of Ephraim and Eirika. He is killed during the fall of Castle Renais at the beginning of the game.

She is known as the Queen of the White Dunes, and is the mother of the Myrmidon Joshua. Ismaire has been ruling Jehanna on her own after she was widowed, with Carlyle as her right hand; she's known as a very wise and gentle ruler, and her people admire her a lot. After being fatally injured by Caellach and found by Eirika and her group, Ismaire finally dies in the arms of Joshua, giving him the treasures of Jehanna as a last gift: the sword Auduhlma and the wind magic tome Excalibur.

She is unlocked by beating the Tower of Valni once, and comes equipped with a Wind Sword, which can attack from a distance with anima magic.

Selena Fluorspar

Class: Mage Knight

Grado's fifth strongest general, Selena is a ruthlessly powerful yet beautiful mage knight who is extremely devoted to Grado and her emperor. She's also known by the name "Fluorspar", and she carries a rock of this type, presented to her by the emperor, at all times.

When Selena was a child, her family was very poor, but the Emperor gave the poor villagers food and aid. From then on, Selena vowed to serve Vigarde. Remembering her childhood, Selena cares for common villagers and in one of the earlier chapters, she can be found in a village, protecting it from bandits. She requests that the visiting character protect the village, and gives that character a Red Gem. If Eirika is the character, she'll ask why Selena wants to help to villagers and Selena replies that it is not fair that the villagers suffer because of the fighting between lords.

In Chapter 11 through Ephraim's Route, she is ordered to kill General Duessel, who has been accused of treason to Grado. Although reluctantily, she decides to comply, but before she can do so, she's stopped by Valter, who tells her that the Emperor doesn't trust her. Surprised and angry at these words, she leaves to speak to the Emperor by herself. She is almost demoted from her General status, until Prince Lyon suggests that she might retrieve a Dragonstone he needs for investigation, so she's given one last chance, and she vows to never fail her Emperor again.

In Chapter 13, she seems swayed by Ephraim and Myrrh's arguments that the Emperor became corrupted, and apologizes with General Duessel for calling him a traitor. However, she insists on following her orders to the death and attacks them, ultimately dying out of loyalty and love for her emperor.

Selena is recruited by beating the Tower of Valni three times.

Valter the Moonstone

Class: Wyvern Knight

Second strongest general in Grado's army, both in the past and the present, Valter is a sadistic wyvern knight who wields his lance with unsurpassed skill and strength. During his past career as a Grado general, Vigarde fired him for slaughtering innocents - but when the Emperor "changed", Valter was re-hired. Later (seen only in Eirika's route), he stages a duel with Glen for oppising to him and ends up killing the other general, which causes Glen's younger brother Cormag to want revenge at first, and later to switch sides.

According to a support conversation between Cormag and Duessel, Valter used to be an only somewhat more decent and still sane man (though he wasn't "a gentle lamb before" as Duessel puts it) until, having had his own lance broken in battle, he took a cursed lance owned by General Duessel, which made him into the man he is now. Cormag then points out a weapon is only as good or evil as the man who wields it. He also lusts after the beautiful and strongwilled Eirika, and one of his reasons to fight is his desire to capture her and make her his puppet bride; Riev points out, as he hears about it, that Valter is like an animal, not letting the human rules stop his darkest desires. He dies at the assault on Jehanna Hall and is is known as the "Moonstone".

Valter is unlocked by beating the seventh floor in the Lagdou Ruins.

Glen the Sunstone

Class: Wyvern Lord

The weakest general in Grado's army, known as the Sunstone. Originally of the peasant class, he and his brother, Cormag, have both risen high in the ranks of Grado's Wyvern riders. He loathes Valter for his ruthlessness, while Valter hates Glen for his morals. According to his younger brother Cormag, he had briefly met Eirika before the war began. Glen, not entirely convinced of Eirika's supposedly treacherous nature, is killed by Valter after letting Eirika pass through Carcino's mountains.

Glen is unlocked by beating the fifth floor in the Lagdou Ruins.

Hayden the Sage King

Class: Ranger

The king of Frelia, known as the venerable Sage King. He's a good friend to both Eirika and Ephraim and the father of Prince Innes and Princess Tana. His leadership and aid to Renais during the war with Grado was crucial to Eirika and Ephraim's victory.

Hayden is unlocked by beating the fifth floor in Lagdou Ruins

Lyon the Imperial Prince

Class: Necromancer

The son of Vigarde, the Emperor of Grado, and heir to the throne of Grado. He's a gentle person who greatly admires his close friends, Eirika and Ephraim; his greatest ambition was to be a strong ruler and protect his kingdom, fueled by his weak health, his onesided love for Eirika, his hidden jealousy of Ephraim and his extremely low self-esteem (before chapter 16, when a guard speaks to him rudely not knowing who he is and later apologizes, Lyon forgives him and says he's used to not have anybody's respect). His experiments with the Fire Emblem, while noble in theory (he intended to save his father's life, and resurrect him when it didn't work), were the cause to the rise of the Demon King, as they finally drove him mad.

Lyon first appears in a cutscene in the chapter "A New Journey". Eirika and Ephraim share a flashback in which they talk with Lyon about their ambitions in life, etc. Lyon has long, purple-gray hair and wears very large robes that cover most of his body. His face is rather pale, and he has purple-gray eyes. He uses the spell Naglfar in combat, as well as the spells Fenrir and Nosferatu in chapter 17.

When he's not fully dominated by the Demon King, Lyon's speech and behavior are extremey different, whether he talks to Ephraim or Eirika. When he faces Eirika he seems sad, remorseful and gentle, as well as somewhat willing to hear her side of the story; when he speaks to Ephraim, he's more aggressive and straightforward, telling that as much as he cherishes his friendship with Ephraim, he wants to win a battle against him at least once and prove himself as a great ruler.

Lyon is recruited by beating the Lagdou Ruins three times.

He is the only Pontifex class in the game, a class very similar to a Civilian class in that it is unable to use weapons or magic and must be protected in order to complete the chapter.

Vigarde, Silent Emperor

Class: General

The stalwart "Silent Emperor" of Grado. He was a benevolent and well-liked ruler who was very good allies with the kingdom of Renais. Suddenly, Vigarde became terminally ill, and was expecting to die. In order to find a way to cure Vigarde of the unexplainable disease, Lyon started experimenting with the Fire Emblem, the sacred stone of Grado.

After many failures, Lyon succeeded in creating the Dark Stone, which he used to resurrect his now dead father. However, the Dark Stone harbored the spirit of the Demon King, and he took control of Lyon and Vigarde. As a puppet of the Demon King, Vigarde appointed Valter, Caellach, and the Demon King's priest, Riev, to generals of Grado's army. Shortly afterward, he gave the orders to invade his longtime ally, Renais.

Vigarde is the boss of chapter 14 of Ephraim's story, in which Ephraim's party kills him. When he dies, his body becomes nothing more than a pile of ashes; Ephraim sees this and realizes that he was already dead. Few after this, they find Lyon's former assistant Knoll who tells the story of Lyon and the dark stone.

Gheb

Class: Giant Enemy? Warrior

Gheb is a mercenary of Grado that was placed at Fort Rigwald. He is very cruel to the troops that disobey him, and is conceited to no end. Before Ephraim arrives to her rescue he also captures Tana. He is a great general and a near-peerless tactician. He also has a desire for young girls as he threatens both Tana and Amelia in a sexual way. He purposely throws the fight against Ephraim to further his diabolical schemes, or so do his loyal subjects say. What really happened, or so claim Gheb's opposition, is that Ephraim managed to attack Gheb's weakpoint (his sexy man legs) for MASSIVE DAMAGE.

Klimt

Klimt is the head of the Council of Elders, which rules the mercantile nation of Carcino. He did not want to get Carcino involved in the war with Grado, and, as the most powerful and influential member of the Council, managed to keep Carcino out of the fray. However, the councilman Pablo used his wealth to corrupt his fellow councilmen into agreeing with him, and soon they would overrule Klimt's decision and aid Grado's forces with Carcino's army. When Klimt refused and tried to stop them, Pablo attempted to carry out a hit on him. Luckily, Eirika and her forces would intervene, and the assassination attempt failed; Klimt then explained what was going on in Carcino.

Pablo

Class: Sage

Pablo is a high-ranked member of the Council of Elders, which rules the mercantile nation of Carcino. Feeling Grado had an upper hand in the war, he proposed they help Grado in its conquest. Klimt, however, did not approve so the idea was dropped; Pablo used his vast money to gain the favor of the Grado troops and send them against Prince Innes, but Erika and her party stop him and Pablo flees. He also hires an assassin to kill off Klimit, this plan fails to and Carcino allies itself with Frelia and Renais. He is not seen again until Chapter 13 in Hamil Canyon where he is killed.

Fomortiis the Demon King

Class: Demon King

Fomortiis, a giant horned demon, is the final boss of the game.

In the year 3, the founders of Magvel trapped the Demon King's soul using the Sacred Stones. The stone of Grado (also known as the Fire Emblem) holds the soul of Fomortiis. Eight-hundred years later in year 803, Vigarde, the Emperor of Grado, dies and his son Lyon then tries to bring him back to life using the power of the Sacred Stones. Lyon succeeds, but in the process gets possessed by Formortiis.

Free of his prison, Fomortiis begins his reign of terror once more and invades Renais seeking to destroy its Sacred Stone using Vigarde and Lyon as his puppets. When he fails to locate the stone and the means to destroy it, he moves on to Frelia, where his generals Selena Fluorspar and Caellach Tiger-Eye easily overpower the Frelians and destroy their Sacred Stone.

Fomortiis sends Caellach to Jehanna, where he kills Queen Ismaire and destroys the stone. Afterwards, both generals Caellach and Valter are slain by twins Eirika and Ephraim in Jehanna's desert. Angered, Formortiis (still possessing Lyon) goes to stop the twins himself and destroy the stone they possess; he fails and retreats.

Soon after the twins' next battle according to the tale the player chooses, Fomortiis either tricks Eirika or takes the stone by force from Ephraim and thus destroys the stone of Renais. The twins venture to Rausten while Formortiis travels to his temple in Darkling Woods to revive his body. Formortiis then sends his last remaining general, Riev, to destroy the stone of Rausten and kill the Divine Emperor Mansel. Riev fails and retreats into Darkling Woods, where he is eventually slain and the twins gain entrance into the Black Temple of the Demon King.

Lyon is slain in the Black Temple and Fomortiis succeeds in resurrecting his body, but his soul is trapped within the Sacred Stone of Rausten. Eirika and Ephraim destroy Formortiis's body thus ensuring that he can never again be resurrected.
