Template:Big Brother housemates Big Brother 3 is the third season of the Canadian reality television series Big Brother Canada. It is based upon the Netherlands series of the same name, which gained notoriety in 1999 and 2000. The series premiered on Global on March 23, 2015 and will last for ten weeks.[1] The series revolves around sixteen strangers living in a house together with no communication with the outside world. They are constantly filmed during their time in the house, and are not permitted to communicate with those filming them. One HouseGuest, known as the Head of Household, has the task of nominating two of their fellow HouseGuests for eviction. The Power of Veto can be used to safe a nominee. The HouseGuests then vote to evict one of the nominees, with the HouseGuest who receives the most votes being evicted from the house. When only two HouseGuests remained, the previously evicted HouseGuests decide which of them would win the $100,000 grand prize.
Development
Having aired fourteen seasons of the United States' edition in the country, it was confirmed that Canada would receive its own edition of the program in 2013.[2] The new series was produced by Endemol USA and Insight Productions. The first season aired on Slice and proved to be a ratings hit for the network, averaging a total of 2.7 million viewers throughout its course.[3][4] The second season continued to have the success of its predecessor, and saw the launch of a new spin-off series titled Big Brother After Show.[5] The finale for the second season had higher viewership than a 2014 Stanley Cup playoff game.[6] The show's first two seasons were nominated for five Canadian Screen Awards in 2014 and 2015.[1] The third season was officially confirmed by host Arisa Cox on June 4, 2014 through her Twitter account.[7] She later confirmed the return of both Big Brother: After Dark and Big Brother After Show. The HouseGuests competed for a $100,000 grand prize,[8][9] a $10,000 trip to any where in the world courtesy of Twistos, as well as a $25,000 home makeover from The Brick.[10] The runner-up would receive a $20,000 cash prize.[11]
Casting for the third season began on August 20, 2014. John Brunton of Insight Productions stated "Big Brother Canada season two was a blockbuster for the franchise with a perfect storm of personalities pitted against each other inside the Big Brother house and cut off from the outside world [...] The bar has once again been raised and we know our BBCAN Superfans will bring their A-Game to the casting calls this year."[12] Casting was yet again run by Robyn Kass of Kassting, who had done the casting work for the previous seasons and the American edition of the show.[12] There were seven casting calls scheduled, with dates in Vancouver, Calgary, Regina, Halifax, St. John's, Montreal and Toronto throughout October and November.[13] Online applications were also available, with the deadline being November 24, 2014.[13] Former HouseGuests Jon Pardy and Neda Kalantar appeared at the Tornto casting call.[14] The first promo for the season premiered on December 17.[15] The cast was revealed in a three-night special on ET Canada, starting on March 16, 2015. Six HouseGuests were revealed on the first night, with five additional HouseGuests being revealed on the second and third nights.[16] This makes season three the season with the most HouseGuests to date.
Twistos returned as a sponsor for the series, having previously sponsored the second season.[17] The twists used throughout the season are referred to as "Twistos Twists", and often impact the dynamics of the game. KFC, OxiClean, Shomi, Ramada, and Pizza Pizza also sponsored the series for its third run, with Ramada and Pizza Pizza being returning sponsors.[18]
Production
Cox confirmed both her return to the series, and its move to Global in June 2014.[7] Global had previously aired the United States' version of the series. Barbara Williams of Shaw Media additionally confirmed this, adding "Our Canadian edition of the beloved Big Brother franchise has quickly become one of the most acclaimed productions in the world and with its move to Global this year, Big Brother Canada’s third installment is looking for the biggest, boldest personalities in Canada to entertain our audiences three nights a week on-air and 24/7 online."[12] Despite the main show's change in network, both Big Brother: After Dark and Big Brother After Show are set to air on Slice. Cox later expressed pleasure in the show's move to Global, believing it could achieve a wider audience.[19]
On March 20, 2015 the first photos of the redesigned House were revealed to the public on Global's website.[20] The geography of the House was left completely intact from season 2. Production designer Pete Farragher describes the House as having a "steampunk vibe." He cites influence for the busy House coming from the British version of the series, with the intention of making the HouseGuests feel uncomfortable. He describes the bathroom as the engine of the house, citing its exposed pipes and valces throughout the space. Farragher compares the Head of Household room to the parlour of the Nautilus from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Farragher describes the main bedroom as "cool" and "dreamy". He notes that it takes advantage of soft lines and a new lighting fixture which emits soft light. This room was designed to make the HouseGuests feel safe, in contrast to the rest of the House. The main floor and second floor of the House are accented with gears and cogs throughout, adding to the industrial feel. The kitchen table was created to look like a giant bicycle chain with cogs and a sprocket running underneath it.[21]

Season summary
The sixteen HouseGuests entered the house on March 19, 2015.[22] The HouseGuests entered to an empty house, and learned that they would have to earn the house's furniture, along with their personal belongings. In the season's first twist, the contestants learned they were all the Head of Household for the week, and they would each nominate two HouseGuests for eviction; Risha and Sindy received the most nominations, thus were nominated for eviction. Bobby, Kevin, Naeha, and Zach were selected to compete in the Power of Veto competition alongside the nominees, with Sindy winning the power. Upon returning inside, Sindy learned that should she save herself, she would be required to name a replacement nominee. Sindy then decided to remove herself from the block, and chose to nominate Pilar in her place. However, unbeknownst to the Houseguests, due to everyone being Head of Household, all of them were ineligible to vote to evict, and the eviction power was given to Canada.

Notes
*^Note 1 : On Day 1, just moments after the HouseGuests entered the House, they were informed that they were all named Head of Household, and they would all be forced to nominate two of their fellow HouseGuests. Following this, it was revealed that Risha and Sindy with five and eight nominations, respectively, received the most nominations and were nominated for eviction. Later that day, Sindy won the Power of Veto competition and was given the power to remove herself from the block and name her own replacement nominee. She removed herself and named Pilar as her replacement. Unbeknownst to the HouseGuests, the Canadian public were then given the power to evict either Risha or Pilar. Risha received the most votes to evict from Canada and was evicted from the House on Day 7.
