North East Centre for Technology Application and Reach (NECTAR) is an autonomous society of the Government of India, set up under Department of Science & Technology with its headquarter at Shillong, Meghalaya. The centre will work towards the social and economic development of the North Eastern region of the country by harnessing and leveraging niche frontier technologies available with central scientific departments and institutions. In order to assist the region, NECTAR will be ensuring applications of appropriate technologies for development in the areas of biodiversity concerns, watershed management, telemedicine, horticulture, infrastructure planning & development, planning and monitoring, and tele-schooling using cutting-edge MESHNET solutions, employment generation etc. through utilization of local products/resources and associated skill development.[1][2]

Origin and Purpose

NECTAR has been formed in the year 2012, with the merger of erstwhile National Mission on Bamboo Applications (NMBA) and Mission on Geospatial Applications (MGA). NECTAR’s unique and distinct mandate to be a Solution Designer and a Partnership Institution helps in focusing on providing technology applications & support for unique problems of the Northeast in consultation with State Governments.
