Nazaqat is a 2013 drama thriller fiction novel written by Harsh Agarwal with a pseudonym of Sasha H Singhal.[1] The book was published by Half Baked Beans.[2]

Plot

Nazaqat follows the life of a young girl Naazani who becomes a successful escort - Nazaqat. As she becomes old, she leaves her profession and starts a food chain business. Saddened by the atrocities on other sex workers, she decides to fight for complete legalization for prostitution in India while being trialed for murder of a close associate from the past.[1][3]

Reception

Aparna Mudi from Zee news wrote about the book, "The writer makes every attempt to make this story as interesting as he can. He brings in many elements of thrill. One of the greatest plusses that this book has is the fact that the story is not linear. It moves to and fro from the present to the past, making sure that not everything is revealed at once. The writing is crisp, but the end seems hurried – it could have made a more lyrical finish to keep the high that Singhal maintains throughout the book."[2]

Sankalpita Singh from Metro India remarked, "The book is written beautifully with the characters, the drama, the action woven so intricately yet so vividly. The suspense continues till the end. Though the book is very good, there is definitely scope of improvement in terms of plot."[4]

Lucknow Tribune published, "The book attempts to make a rather powerful statement on women empowerment through the life of a high-end escort Nazaqat."[5]
