Uyghuristan (Uyghur: ایغورستان), meaning "land of the Uyghurs" is a name used by the Uyghur nationalists to refer to their region East Turkestan, China. It is a proposed independent Uyghur homeland in the Xinjang region of China.[1]
Uyghuristan is located beyond a logical boundary of China, the Great Wall. Historically, Uyghuristan is a part of Central Asia, not of China. Uyghuristan's people are not Chinese; they are Turks of Central Asia.
Etymology
In the Uyghur language, the ethnonym is written Uyghur (ئۇيغۇر) in Arabic script.
Freedom movements
The Uyghur people have done several movements for a separate homeland. In July 2009, thousands of Uyghurs clashed with Chinese and some 200 people died, although Uyghur nationalists argue that the real death toll was considerably higher.
