After a successful 2006 ITF junior season Tomic ends 2006 with four ITF 18/u titles and the prestigeous 14/u [[Junior Orange Bowl]].

Bernard Tomic (born October 10, 1992) is a teenage Australian tennis player who has gained international attention as a child prodigy in his sport. In 2006 at the age of 13, he won an International Tennis Federation 18-and-under tournament, dropping only two sets in eight matches.[1]

Biography

Tomic was born in Stuttgart, Germany to Croatian refugee parents, but moved to Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, about three years later. He started playing Tennis when he was seven years old after his father bought him a racquet for 50 cents at a garage sale. His father later bought him a better one after realizing his talent.[2]

Since then, he has won more than 60 tennis tournaments[3], and he won an 18-and-under International Tennis Federation tournament in February of 2006. Tomic "dropped only two sets in eight matches against older, more experienced opponents," according to FOX Sports.[4]

In March of 2006, Tomic signed with sports marketing agency IMG, whose clients include Tennis superstars Roger Federer, Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and Lindsay Davenport.[5]

As of March of 2006, Tomic was ranked 205 in the ITF World Junior Rankings, the highest-ranked 13-year-old in the world. He currently attends The Southport School, an all-boy Anglican boarding school on the Gold Coast.[6]
