...the league format was changed into i league q...

fix sentence as that please

and about IL2 relegation detail, it does send all but 1 club back in state leagues to reach spot again. how to call it, but surely not nothing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.3.60.67 (talk) 06:39, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

also, instead of asking to block vandals, takes time to revert locked pages as most foreign admins are off topic. while attacks continue — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.3.60.67 (talk) 10:01, 12 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Guild of Copy Editors September 2021 Newsletter

Hello and welcome to the September GOCE newsletter, a brief update of Guild activities since June 2021.

                 Current and upcoming events

September Drive: Our current backlog-elimination drive is open until 23:59 on 30 September (UTC) and is open to all copy editors. Sign up today!

Drive and Blitz reports

June Blitz: From 20 to 26 June, 6 participating editors claimed 16 copy edits, focusing on requests and articles tagged in March and April. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

July Drive: Almost 575,000 words of articles were copy edited for this event. Of the 24 people who signed up, 18 copyedited at least one article. Final results and awards are listed here.

August Blitz: From 15 to 21 August, we copy edited articles tagged in April and May 2021 and requests. 9 participating editors completed 17 copy edits on the blitz. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Other news

June election: Jonesey95 was chosen to continue as lead coordinator, assisted by Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

New maintenance template added to our project scope: After a short discussion in June, we added {{cleanup tense}} to the list of maintenance templates that adds articles to the Guild's copy editing backlog categories. This change added 198 articles, spread over 97 months of backlog, to our queue. We processed all of those articles except for those from the three or four most recent months during the July backlog elimination drive (Here's a link to a "tense" discussion during the drive).

Progress report: As of 18:26, 24 September 2021 (UTC), GOCE copyeditors have processed 468 requests since 1 January and there were 60 requests awaiting completion on the Requests page. The backlog of articles tagged for copy-editing stood at 433 (see monthly progress graph above).

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators Jonesey95, Dhtwiki, Tenryuu, and Miniapolis.

To discontinue receiving GOCE newsletters, please remove your name from our mailing list.

@Footy2000 even I forgot, but it happened after I added the position by match table in article (most probably 2 years back).  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  15:26, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Appeal

Hi buddy, I have been contributing in an article named List of Indian football players in foreign leagues, an important destination for everyone who loves Indian football. In that, some sources are not even archived—going to be dead! If you save those through wayback machine (the process is not known to me), that would be greeeeeat for sure. Keep up your awesome work & stay safe Arnab!! ❤️💛 Billjones94 (talk) 16:25, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Billjones94. I have archived the links. There's a shortcut for archiving links. Go to "view history" there you will see "fix dead link", click that and iabot.toolforge.org page analyzer will open. Click the checkbox "Add archives to all non-dead references". It takes some time to archive the links.  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  16:37, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wow!! Indeed helpful. I'm really thankful to you.

@Billjones94, You can try for WP:Featured list  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  17:06, 5 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Historical article on Kolkata

Hello.I am new to Wikipedia. I am writing to you as you reviewed this article and gave it a badge: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Calcutta_Turf_Club An article on a similar instituton is currently in need of improvement: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bengal_Club I tried to do so by looking at the article you reviewed and awarded. Like the article you reviewed, I tried to mention famous royal visitors, famous club presidents etc, and also quoted Geoffrey Moorehouse (who is mentioned in the article you reviewed and awarded). The difference is that I added more details, quotes and photos. The article received a negative review for being written like an "essay". I have tried to edit and improve the draft. I removed many quotes and just kept a few historically significant quotes. Here is the new version: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:The_Bengal_Club

Can you please advise me on whether the new version is ok? Thank you.

Anderson1970 (talk) 15:03, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Anderson1970 Hi. Since the article on Bengal Club already exists, you need to improve that, instead of developing a new one. Regarding the Turf Club article, I didn't review that, I helped to promote to the Good Article badge 😅. Start with merging your draft with the existing article with proper reliable citations.  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  18:29, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your comment. Can you please tell me how to merge? An editor from the India Wikipedia community page kindly wrote back to me and gave me advice. He also shortened the opening paragraph. Following the advice, I have now shortened it drastically. However, the editor did not say anything about merging. Rather he said if I cut the article (which I have) it will be accepted as the topic is notable.

Also, the current article is just a few lines and gives an old link. Also, the current article is giving a wrong fact that the club was known by another name. I researched and saw this is not true. A blogpost also says it is a common misconception.

What should I do now? The curent status is this:

- The current article is too short and has wrong info. - My sandbox draft is 100% backed by citations but was rejected first. It is now better with an editor's help and has been submitted for re-review.

Anderson1970 (talk) 19:15, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Anderson1970 Merging in the sense that add the data in Bengal Club from the Draft:The Bengal Club. It doesn't matter whether it is short or long etc. That is why we all are here, to collaboratively improve and expand articles, right? You can remove the unsourced/incorrect information.  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  20:03, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Anderson1970 And yes, the club was known as "Calcutta United Services Club" as per their website  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  20:12, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks. I will copy-paste it then and perhaps leave a message on the talk page to explain what I have done. Thanks for the link. In my view, there is some confusion. The authoritative history says that the club was planned to be called the CALCUTTA United Services Club, but they stuck with Bengal Club in the end. https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.38290. The link you sent also says CALCUTTA United Services Club. However, there was a different club called BENGAL United Services Club, established in 1845, which is also mentioned in the book. The photo on the original Wiki page has a photo of the BENGAL United Services Club. Here is the blogpost I was referrign to. The blogpost criticises Wikipedia for givign wrong information: "On 15th March 1853, the Bengal Military Club changed its name to the Bengal United Service Club. This change in name has led several websites, including Wikipedia, to state that the Bengal Club started out as the United Service Club. This is absolutely incorrect." http://double-dolphin.blogspot.com/2016/04/united-service-club-chowringhee-calcutta-kolkata.html

The Telegraph says: "The Bengal United Service Club was founded in 1845 as The Bengal Military Club." It has a photo of the bulding, which still exists.

https://www.telegraphindia.com/west-bengal/maltese-cross-in-city-heart/cid/1258480

Perhaps I will leave a note on the talk page.

Anderson1970 (talk) 20:41, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Anderson1970: I was not aware that Bengal Club already exists. Since your article is a draft, you don't need to do a merge. Just add your information directly into Bengal Club (keep the tone neutral and not promotional) and you should be good. I can delete your draft once you're done. You should also take the draft out of the AfC process.--RegentsPark (comment) 20:52, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, friend. I will let you know when I add the article. In the meantime, I left a message on the talk page arguing that the present article has many faults and should be removed entirely.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bengal_Club

Anderson1970 (talk) 04:22, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Anderson1970 Do not remove anything if it is sourced. Regarding the name confusion, just describe that who called/planned which name.  Saha ❯❯❯ Stay safe  06:40, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RegentsPark and @Saha

Hello. As I am new and a bit confused, I modified the article's talk page instead and pasted the sandbox draft there. I listed the mistakes in the old article and suggested why there should be a new article, though I did retain a few things from the old article. Can you please take a look at the talk page? If you like it, then I can paste it and you can then delete the sandbox draft. Also, if you like the revised style I can post new historical articles on colonial topics like this . Let me know. Thank you.
