This Is Going to Hurt is an internationally co-produced comedy-drama television series created by Adam Kay based on his memoir of the same name. It stars Ben Whishaw as a National Health Service doctor working through the ranks of hospital hierarchy. The seven-part series premiered on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on 8 February 2022. It will air on AMC in the United States, date to be confirmed.

Plot

Season 1

An obstetrics and gynaecology doctor, Adam works his way up through the ranks of hospital hierarchy. He trains Shruti in the process and procedures. His personal life is affected by the long hours and stressful decisions, and he tries hard to cling on it. Although a medico-legal case creates concern and self-doubt it also gives him some personal time. Shruti handles the ward by herself with the guidance of Ms Houghton. However, stress and a lack of support causes her depression and suicide. This affects everyone who worked with her. Adam wins the legal case and gets back to his old life of slaving away as a doctor.
