Defaultsort removals

@ProcrastinatingReader: Because there's nothing about schools in the guidelines for default sorting. Note the placement of University of Kiel in Category:Buildings and structures in Kiel
It would probably be a good idea to discuss this somewhere before you do it, since all universities are currently defaultsorted and you've un-defaultsorted some and not others. To take an example from one of your removals, I think "University of Edinburgh" and "Edinburgh Napier University" should be next to each other as that's standard sorting. I'm going to revert these for now, but feel free to discuss them at some appropriate universities/sorting WikiProject etc. ProcrastinatingReader (talk) 13:35, 21 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ProcrastinatingReader: Where would you put University of Illinois Chicago? Illinois? Chicago? Lists should be alphabetized. The default sort accomplishes that. Category:Organisations based in Edinburgh with royal patronage is a hodge-podge of policies, but University of Edinburgh is where users will look for it. Maybe you have a point, but you're talking about undoing a sorting order done for universities both nationally and (afaik) internationally. The current style is to strip the "University of" in ordering, it's done with most major university articles I know of. If we're scrapping it, it should really be done with some discussion so some folks can have a chance to point out downsides of the change, too, rather than create an inconsistency where some articles don't have the defaultsort while others (like University of Oxford) do.
