The Battle of Umbara, also known as the Umbaran Campaign was one of the major offensive campaigns conducted by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. It occurred in 20 BBY. It saw the usage of several different Clone units, notably General Skywalker's 501st Legion and General Kenobi's 7th Sky Corps. Unlike most major battles of the Clone Wars, the majority of Confederate forces were comprised of local militia units and not battle droids.

The beginning of the battle saw major advances by Republic forces onto the surface of Umbara after breaking through the Separatist blockade. The two major battalions used in the ground assault were the 501st Legion and the 212th Attack Battalion, which arrived on the surface after being deployed by LAAT/i gunships The Republic forces were quickly bogged down by Umbaran forces, which used superior technology. Command of the 501st Legion was passed from General Anakin Skywalker to General Pong Krell in the beginning stages of the battle.

General Krell forced the 501st Legion on risky and costly advances on the Umbaran capital, costing many clone lives. General Kenobi ordered Krell to take an airfield after the bombardment of Kenobi's forces by low-yield nuclear warheads. The battle for the airfield ended in a Republic victory. After the takeover of the airfield, ARC Trooper "Fives", CT-5597 "Jesse" and CT-9415 "Hardcase" went on an unsanctioned mission to destroy a Separatist supply ship in orbit using stolen Umbaran fighters. The mission was successful, although Hardcase sacrificed himself for the other soldiers. As a result of the unsanctioned mission, Fives and Jesse were ordered to be executed. The clones chosen to executed the duo were commanded by CT-6922 "Dogma", who, unlike the other clones of the 501st, blindly followed Krell's orders regardless of how destructive and sabotaging his orders. The clones did not fire on the duo, and "Dogma" was placed under custody of the 501st.

After the destruction of the supply vessel, a detachment of the 501st and 212th were informed of disguised Umbarans soldiers on patrol. The 501st fired on the soldiers, not knowing that they were actually 212th troopers. This skirmish was orchestrated by Krell to kill the clones. The commanding officer of the 501st, CT-7567 "Rex" ended the skirmish after revealing to each side that they were firing on fellow clones. After this, the 501st and 212th turned on General Krell, who revealed himself as a fallen Jedi and Separatist defector. The clones successfully captured Krell, placing him under custody. CT-6922 "Dogma" illegally executed Krell after taking a sidearm from the holster of Fives. After the battle, CT-6922 was placed under Republic custody for killing a Jedi.

After the death of Krell, Kenobi and the 212th were able to capture the Umbaran capital, winning the battle for the Grand Army of the Republic.
