Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 (BLIC 07) is a cricket computer game from by Codemasters available on PlayStation 2, PC and Xbox 360 (Also Xbox Live enabled). It is endorsed by West Indian cricketer Brian Lara. It follows Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 released 2 years earlier. BLIC 07 is due for release in March 2007 when the 2007 Cricket World Cup is taking place, which is a similar launch tactic used by Codemasters for the release of BLIC 05, which was launched on the first day of the 2005 Ashes series. The game will be released in Australia and New Zealand under the name of Ricky Ponting International Cricket 2007[1] and in India as Yuvraj Singh International Cricket 2007.[2]

Improvements

Brian Lara International Cricket 2007 will add extra depth to the series’ complete batting, bowling and fielding experience whilst retaining its trademark accessible playability. The acclaimed batting play will see the introduction of subtle edges, sweepshots and the ability to use your feet to dance down wicket and smash the ball over the boundary for six.

Bowling will see a much improved set of delivery types, thanks to changes in the way the ball swings in the air and reacts off the pitch, showcasing Shane Warne’s huge variation of spinning deliveries and Steve Harmison’s raw pace and even reverse swing as the ball degrades. In Fielding, there’s a new reflex-testing slip catch system and players can now be run out at both ends and be stumped by alert wicket-keepers.

The most exciting improvement is that BLIC 07 will be the first cricket computer game to have online play included. This will be available on Xbox 360 and PC.

Although it seems almost silly, Codemasters have been under pressure to make wicket keepers have caps on. This has been included in the 2007 version. However, they have yet to resolve the issue of wicket keepers wearing helmets.

Licensing

Not all players names featured in the game will be real. Only those in the licensed tournaments will be. However warm-up games can be played for the tournaments with the proper names (ODI mode only). As in BLIC 05, players' names are fake because EA has the official licenses, not Codemasters. All official ICC World Cup stadiums will be in the game and there will be a special ICC World Cup mode where Codemasters has the license to use all official teams, stadia, kits and equipment of the tournament.[3]

Gameplay

There are several game modes, such as ICC World Cup, Test matches, One-day Internationals, ICC Champions Trophy, Twenty20, bowling, fielding, batting practice as well as net practice sliced in with 16 tutorial mini games.

The game pioneers online mode in cricket games.

Commentary

Commentary will be provided by Jonathan Agnew, David Gower, Ian Bishop, Bill Lawry and Tony Greig. This is the same team that was on Brian Lara International Cricket 2005 although initially Jeff Thomson was announced as a commentator but not included in the final game.

Codemasters promise a slight advance to the already good commentary present in the 2005 version.

Codemasters Open Day

Codemasters held an open day in October 2006 which was attended by six staff members at PlanetCricket and one member from the Codemasters forum. The seven were shown the game being developed as well as given a demo of the current alpha build. Another open day is planned for 2nd of March 2007 where gamers will get the chance to try out the new game.[4]

The open day was a large success in generating support from the game as this extent of customer relations is unheard of to cricket gaming fans which puts codemasters in a positive light as a company that cares for its customers. The community liason officer (and web editor) Peer Lawther (aka Rubbergenius) also aids this.
