The Among Us chicken nugget is a chicken nugget that was found in McDonald's' BTS Meal that garnered popular internet and media attention due to its likeness in shape to the crewmates from Among Us. The nugget would be listed on eBay under the title: "McDonald's Among Us shaped Nugget from BTS Meal". After the eBay listing circulated online as an internet meme due to the listing and nugget's seeming absurdity, the nugget was eventually sold on eBay at the price of $99,997.
Background
The nugget was first found as part of McDonald's' collaboration with BTS, the BTS Meal,[1] which came with a 10- or 9- piece Chicken McNuggets.[2] It was listed on eBay on May 28, 2021 by the user polizna at the price of $0.99. The item's description stated that the item would be frozen and air sealed to ensure freshness with a secure shipping method, as the average expiration date of a chicken nugget was said to be 14 days.[3]

Internet phenomenon
The nugget first garnered widespread online attention after it was posted on the subreddit r/CrackheadCraigslist under the title: "Among us chicken nugget from the McDonald's BTS meal [sic]". As of December 2022, the post has more than 8,400 upvotes.[6]
The nugget received a boost in attention on June 1 2021 after the official Among Us twitter account posted about the auction.[7][8] The official Xbox twitter acount replied to this post, stating "For that price it must come with Szechuan Sauce", a reference to the sauce sold by McDonald's due to popular demand by Rick and Morty fans, as the sauce is referenced numerous times in The Rickshank Rickdemption. polizna responded to this request by stating "Jokes on them" and "I have Szechuan and at buyer's request will ship some with the nugget.", with an image depicting a box full of McDonald's Szechuan Sauce being added to the listing for proof.[9]
Legacy
After the chicken nugget was sold for $99,997, it received significant online and media attention due to the seeming absurdity of the nugget's price. Media that covered the chicken nugget include The Verge,[10] The Guardian,[4] Rolling Stone,[11] CNET,[12] The Star[13] and ABC News.[14]
Guiness World Records
The Among Us chicken nugget was included as part of Guiness World Records 2023 as the "most expensive chicken nugget sold at online auction".[15]
Child sex trafficking conspiracy theory
After the chicken nugget was sold, several TikTok accounts and QAnon affiliates started making claims that the Among Us chicken nugget's listing was part of a conspiracy in which money was being transferred on sites such as eBay for child sex trafficking and that "chicken nugget" was a not-so-secret code for it. One person promoting the theory stated that "when people become aware of child sex trafficking, it is no longer hidden in plain sight". Although many of these videos were taken down, the conspiracy theory's existence would be publicised to the common public by Rolling Stone.[16]
