Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar has now been appointed as Acting Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Sarawak. It follows the absence of Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud who is currently in the process of recovering his health abroad. Abdul Taib was previously in Turkiye for a holiday before facing health problems and undergoing a surgical procedure. He has already taken the oath in the Astana Negeri Petra Jaya. Present to witness the ceremony was the Premier of Sarawak, Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg. According to a report from Astro Awani, this is not the first time he has performed the task, and the last time was on 1 December 2019 to 11 January 2020.
