Keir Giles (born 26 January 1968) is a British writer.[1] Giles is an writer on security issues affecting Russia and on the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
Giles is a research director with the Conflict Studies Research Centre.[2]
Before his current role Giles also worked for the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom, the BBC Monitoring service, and Ernst & Young in Moscow.[3]
Before his academic career he appeared in A Captive in the Land as a cook.[4][better source needed]

Giles reached notability in early October 2023 when he argued that being a member of the Waffen-SS didn't necessarily make somebody a Nazi, in response to the controversy surrounding the House of Commons of Canada's standing ovation for Ukrainian-Canadian World War II veteran of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the SS (1st Galician) Yaroslav Hunka.[6] In the article Giles writes of Hunka's unit, "Repeated exhaustive investigations ... led to the conclusion that no war crimes or atrocities had been committed by this particular unit," effectively whitewashing the SS Galichina subunits' involvement in the Huta Pieniacka massacre of Polish civilians.[7]
