Desmond Child (born 28 October 1953, Miami, Florida, USA) has worked as a music performer and songwriter. His hits as a songwriter include "Livin' On A Prayer" (Bon Jovi), and "Livin' La Vida Loca" (Ricky Martin). His career started when he formed a soft rock band 'Desmond Child & Rouge' in 1975. This band is known for their inclusion on the soundtrack to The Warriors in 1979, with the song "Last of an Ancient Breed". One member, Maria Vidal, went solo and had a hit in 1985 with "Body Rock".

Child has had more success with his songwriting and has worked with/for various high profile artists from the pop and rock world - Cher, Michael Bolton, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Alice Cooper, KISS, Ricky Martin, Roxette, Dream Theater, Jesse McCartney, Kelly Clarkson and LeAnn Rimes among others.

Child is credited with discovering Troy Tuminelli and recommending him to Edgardo Diaz before Tuminelli landed in Menudo, and, eventually, in Guiding Light.

He produced Meat Loaf's new album Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose, and co-wrote six of its songs.

Currently he´s working on the new Scorpions Album as well as American Idol Season 5 Top 10 contestant Ace Young.
