Early Life and Education

Agricultural Advocacy

In 2003, Saioo initiated the women-led turmeric farming movement in Meghalaya, focusing on the Lakadong variety. Under Saioo's leadership, the Lakadong turmeric cultivation gained momentum, with 800 farmers coming together within four years. Saioo realized the value of the distinctive Lakadong variety and commercialized it with the help of other uneducated villagers. This proved to be extremely helpful as they could now make ends meet by farming. She assisted illiterate women with organic certification, marketing, and documentation to avail subsidies.
