CEPRES International University is a private university in Liberia, established in response to the 2014 Ebola outbreak. The university provides education in environmental and public health to enhance the local healthcare system.
History
Inception During the 2014 Ebola Outbreak
CEPRES International University was conceived during the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Liberia, a period that exposed significant deficiencies in the healthcare system. Dr. Mogana S. Flomo Jr.,[1] who was pursuing his Ph.D. in Public Health at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana, initiated the establishment of a training center aimed at addressing these healthcare gaps. The initial purpose of the center was to offer specialized training in environmental and public health to enhance the capabilities of the local health system.[2]
Transformation to University
Initially envisioned as a training center, the institution faced skepticism and resistance from existing universities regarding its collaborative training model. As a result, it adopted an independent approach and, by May 2015, transformed into CEPRES International University. The university commenced its first classes with nearly 200 students, marking a significant shift from its original concept and setting the stage for a comprehensive educational institution.[3]

The university has graduated over 500 students who have contributed significantly to the fields of environmental and health sciences both in Liberia and internationally.[9]
