Xenophrys apatani, is a species of horned toad of Xenophrys genus, first discovered in Northeast India.
This leaf litter dwelling frog is a species of frog in the family Megophryidae found in Tale Wildlife Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh, India.[1] It lives amongst tea leaves and sporting small horns. It is dark brown in colour. The new species was first reported from Arunachal Pradesh in 2019 and by mistakenly overlooked as Xenophrys maosonensis.[2] The wrong identity of Indian horned frog X. apatani as the Vietnam and Chinese horned frog, X. maosonensis through genetic analysis. X. apatani is exhibiting 4.4 to 5.5% genetic distance with the X. maosonensis from Vietnam and also having some morphological differences.[3][4]
