This ia a chonological list of highwaymen active in Europe and colonial America from the 16th to 18th century.
- Humphrey Kynaston (1474-1534)
- James Hind (d. September 24, 1652)
- Lady Katherine Ferrers (1634-1660), believed to be the "Wicked Lady"
- Claude Duval (1643-1670)
- "Swift Nick" John Nevison (1639-1684) aka "William Nevison"
- William Davies (1627-1690), robbed the rich for 40 long years, otherwise known as "Golden Farmer"
- Juraj Jánošík (1688-1713), who became legendary in Slovak, Polish, and Czech cultures.
- Neesy O'Haughan (d. 1720)
- Joseph "Blueskin" Blake (d. November 9, 1724), English highwayman and former associate of Jack Sheppard and Jonathan Wild
- Tom King (d.1737)
- Dick Turpin (1706-1739), most well known outlaw of 18th centuary
- William Plunkett and James MacLaine (d. October 3, 1750)
- John Rann (d. 1774)
- John Austin (d. November 3, 1783), the last person to be publicly hanged from the gallows at Tyburn, London.
- Nicolas J. Pelletier (d.1789 ?), the first person executed by guillotine during the French Revolution.
- Jerry Abershawe (1773-1795)
- Richard "Galloping Dick" Ferguson (d. 1800), an associate of Jerry Abershawe.
- Joseph Warshaw (1756-1806)
- George Lyons (1761-1815), the last known highwayman to be hanged in Lancashire.
- Captain Gallagher (d. 1818)
