Mona Vale is a suburb located on the northern beaches of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia roughly twenty kilometres north from the city centre. It features two primary schools and one high school, a large RSL club, a park, a sunken public library, a golf course, a hospital, a bus depot, and a good variety of shops. It is also the junction of two major roads in Sydney, Metroad 3 (Mona Vale Road) and Metroad 10 (Pittwater Road).
It has a long but shallow beach (formerly known as Bongin Bongin Beach) which has at its north end a children's and lap pool. This beach adjoins a golf course and beach reserves. There is a second beach north of this which is known as "The Basin". Houses line this beach.
In 2005, it became the council seat of Pittwater Council after the council chambers moved from Warriewood. Its sister city is Wilmette, Illinois, USA, with which its high school participates in an annual student exchange program. Mona Vale and Wilemette are connected spiritually as well, each is home to a Bahá'í House of Worship, of which there are only seven in the world.

after the shooting occured law enforcements were doubled to ensure the safety of Mona vales citizens. But sadly just 30 years later this all ended. In April 1894 a crazed gunman took 12 lives in a horrific shootout that lasted well over 18 hours. The shooter Jack Walsh was snipered by constable Benn Hawkins. Jack Walsh will go down in history as one of the worst killers in New South Wales history. The heroic Benn Hawins was presented the NSW Medal of Bravery in 1894. He passed away on the 14th of October 1922.
